I do not have the necessary material but if someone could provide the information regarding the /u2 modification for the g6 that would be of great support. If it was produced in late 1943 then there is a possibility of making it a modifcation for the g6.

External fuel tank ???

G-6/U2 is the GM-1 (nitrous) equipped modification of the G-6.. it has a big NO2 tank in the rear fuselage similar to the MW 50 booster tanks on later models, only it contains 20-30 minutes worth of NO2 that gives you some extra 300 horsepower, but the catch is that you can only use it some 1500 meters above rated altitude. So its ineffective below around 8000 meter, and the weight of the tank and its contents only bog you down.

Its basically a high altitude beast mode G-6.

Historically, I doubt these saw much use on the Eastern Front, and many were converted to methanol boost once that became a thing in early 1944.

Gotcha, that makes sense seeing as how most of the fighting occurred low alt on the eastern front. I guess that will be more applicable to BoBP.

When it is for such high altitudes, I doubt, that there were built many of them, as it is more something for the pressurized high altitude version G5.

It's a shame the MW50 system came in 44 then

What would happen if you were to activate it under 8k?

I'd bet you'd see an increase in horsepower below 8 km, but from the sound of things the increase in power would be offset by the extra weight of the equipment needed to make it possible.

No it would likely blow the motor.

nitrous has to be tuned to hit in a very specific spot in the powerband for safety and maximum effect if I recall correctly, butvits been a long time since I built motors and I never built with nitrous.

Nitrous oxide only makes the air entering the engine gain density to make up for the lack of air density at higher altitudes.  It doesn't harm the engine at all.

But the extra power it generates can harm the engine.

Then with that logic MW50 system would have torched the engine, sure you would need to open radiators more but the low air density (assuming you're around 5 to 8k) would have minimal drag increase.

Engaging GM1 below the permitted altitude would overboost and quickly, maybe even instantly destroy the engine. As opposed to MW50, it does not provide any charge cooling, just extra oxygen and fuel. A simpler way to achieve what GM1 achieved at low altitude, would be to increase boost to about 1.7ata and adjust fuel flow accordingly. It's just not possible with the DB605A and B4 fuel without damaging/destroying the engine.

Fuel Tank? Oh, that will be my turn to make an air to air kill with the fuel tank. >8^)
