TheWarsimmer Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 (edited) Il2 is at a point where it's absolutely stunning visually, but popup was and still seems to be an issue. It's like there is a "bubble" around the player's plane, and inside of the bubble trees are rendered in 3d while everything outside of it is perfectly flat. It can be a bit distracting. Is there a fix, or way to increase this bubble size so it isn't so noticeable? Here's an old thread about it: Edited May 7, 2018 by baylor703
Custard Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 The range was significantly increased a while back, and how with the landscape filtering settings I can honestly say it's not really that much of a big deal for me. I notice it, but it's far less prominent than it once was. 2

ShamrockOneFive Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 You now control building and tree render distances to some degree. Change the landscape rendering to 4X (if your system can handle it) and it will push that tree line much further out.

Look here [setup] texlod=4096,4 texlod=2048,4 texlod=2048,4 texlod=2048,4 texlod=2048,4 [end]
EisenWaffel Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 One thing you can do is get High quality clouds mod (this lets you adjust a bunch of graphic options independently) Then in the gpresets.cfg file that you put in the LuaScripts folder find which preset you use (preset 0 = Low, preset 1 = Balanced, preset 2 = High, preset 3 = Ultra) Then you can change the forest_distance to 8 or more as well as changing forest_quality to 0.5, this makes the highest tree LOD lower (to keep framerate up) and the tree render distance farther, or you can keep forest_quality the same if it runs ok. Building distance is probably controlled by objects_distance but I never changed that. This will work for single player.

As well as the 4 (or sometimes 8 as I've seen it in the terrain.cfg)? I know you can still alter this terrain.cfg file if you allow mods in the settings, but I'm not sure what each value is for. I believe there are 4 groupings of 5 "texlod" values. I'm assuming the 4 groupings are for the 1-4x landscape detail, but then what do the 5 texlod values represent? EDIT: I found out what they mean. The 4096/2048 represents the level of detail at each level, and the 4/8 represents how "big" of an area that covers. I.e. 4096,4 would be twice as detailed as 4096,8. I think these only edit the textures, however, and not how far out the transition is from 2d to 3d. 2 hours ago, Gubernub said: One thing you can do is get High quality clouds mod (this lets you adjust a bunch of graphic options independently) Then in the gpresets.cfg file that you put in the LuaScripts folder find which preset you use (preset 0 = Low, preset 1 = Balanced, preset 2 = High, preset 3 = Ultra) Then you can change the forest_distance to 8 or more as well as changing forest_quality to 0.5, this makes the highest tree LOD lower (to keep framerate up) and the tree render distance farther, or you can keep forest_quality the same if it runs ok. So basically, the forest_distance value is how far out the trees are drawn in 3d and the forest_quality is the fidelity of how they are rendered? This looks pretty incredible. Thanks for the info. EDIT: I tried the mod out, and it's awesome. However, modifying the forest_distance doesn't seem to change the 2d to 3d transition distance. Edited May 8, 2018 by baylor703

Yea it does make sure you're making the change for the right preset you're using or make the change to all of them to be sure, I set my forest distance to 8 and the change was very clear to see, of course you'll still see the transition if you fly high enough but it is indeed farther away.

Hmmm... I'll have to try it out again and try switching all the values for each preset. The cloud rendering is 100% improved with this mod, and I thought after doing further research that the 3d distance was limited to 10km, and that the value of 5 represented the max distance (2km per numeral?). I DID notice when I altered the forest_quality to .5 that they degraded in quality, so the value changes are working. Thanks for the information, this is a great mod!

The value do not much difference if I raise them for example the stalingrad cliffs transition are still there even I raise the value to a whatever value - says to me this "terrain.cfg" work not more the same way how the old worked before. Played with the "land_setup.ini" as well to see this config do - here the same result not much difference if I raise the value.

Ok I tried again putting in extreme values and maybe there is a limit for the distance, I think 3 is the value for "high" so maybe I was just seeing the change to 5 Also that terrain.cfg tweak doesn't work anymore as far as I know Edited May 17, 2018 by Gubernub 1
