Alastair_S1D Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 I'm putting this in the suggestion section as it really is a suggestion. Currently as it is in BOx if the BF109 gets shot in one of the radiators the fight is generally over as it = tuck tail and run home as fast as possible before the engine fails. However historically BF109 pilots had the option to isolate the damaged radiatior in order to preserve their coolant and carry on flying. Do you think that we can implement this feature as it would mean 109 pilots can stay in the fight longer.
ZachariasX Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Even the fuel tanks are „merged“ in the sim. The problem with your idea is that you have to map further contols for the shut off valves (that nobody would know what they are good for) plus you had to separate the cooling system in at least 3 different zones. But I don‘t really see the point of that in the context of this game. Playing with those valves is nice if you have clickspots in the cockpit. Mapping them on switches neatly arranged next to each other on a console is nothing but a cheat. Besides, on one radiator it is not „tuck your tail and run“ but much rather „tuck your tail and limp“. You can do this in this sim already fairly well. I find the timer that is set off to stop your engine once your cooling is hit does not discriminate much in regard of the size of the hole blown in your cooling system. With a good hit on a pressurized system you can be toast before you can utter 4 letters. And we don‘t have that here.
=EXPEND=Tripwire Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 I'm very looking forward to having the function. Yes 'limp' home on 1 radiator - but that is a far better outcome than trying to desperately get over a frontline especially if the damage occurs deep in enemy territory. Would save the Luftwaffe a large number of lost airframes that had to be ditched due to a single radiator being damaged and not enough time to get back to an airbase.

Airframes was about the last thing they were short of. Make no mistake, adding systems functionality to aircraft increases their need for CPU ressources and their price. I‘m sure the devs are carefully balancing their priorities. Just to be clear, I would wecome such a feature (including their cost) as well.

Many multi-player missions are won/lost on plane and pilot counts. I'm sure many single player careers have also been ended due to capture by not being able to get back over frontlines due to coolant loss.

In most of them it is not enough to make it back to your side, you have to land on your airfield
