I am having an absolute blast with the  new career. Only using one German and one Russian at a time and finding it very addictive. Without a doubt (in my opinion) the best SP campaign in my 30 something years of playing flight sim SP.

Muchos kudos devs and comrade Jason for his inputs alone the BoX journey.

Agreed, I am on my 5th Career now and am having an absolute blast.

One hour long bomber escort missions with no enemy contact aside (at least it's accurate) it is indeed AMAZING!

Just about every aspect is improved or supplemented from the campaign system. An outstanding bit of code development and design.

Add me to this list. This addition has brought me into the game and absolutely loving it so far; looking forward to improvements and new campaigns to be added but there's enough variety here to keep me going for ages. Thanks guys.

It is good, although my Soviet pilots have thus far all ended either dead or in captivity.

The same has happened to all my fellow I/JG 51 pilots...

Anyway, SP career is great and I enjoy it.

It is a great improvement on the previous, but i am getting quite fed up of planes spawning and despawning right infront of me, it really kills immersion.

I can't say I've seen this happen, although the way they sometimes seem to disappear when they're on the same plane as some nearby clouds might be giving that effect?

It's happened to me quite a bit, probably once in every 10 missions. I have been diving onto an enemy plane before and it just blips out of existence, but more often it's when i'm flying to engage some enemies and suddenly 3 or so more spawn 2 o'clock high less than a km away. Its happened often when i've had markers on too so it's not like i just didn't see them. It's also happened on Kuban and Moscow campaigns but i haven't tried Stalingrad yet.

The career is awesome, however, the AI makes it worse that it could be.

Sometimes missions repeat 1:1 which is not so cool and I also wish there would be more options to customize the flight plan and start from parking. I fly one mission per day and I like to experience everything that comes with a sortie (preflight, startup, taxi, formation flying and so on) and not only "fight" - so for me there could be a lot more "meat" to the career than we have now and I hope the devs improve upon this.

But the overall structure is excelent!

That I have never seen in quite a few hours on both sides in the latest career???

Me either.  Although I have noticed they frequently vanish whenever there is a distant cloud behind them and reappear when they have passed the cloud.

I started an bf110 campaign first mission with a flight of 4 it was bomber escort. Engaged yaks enroute we all die, yak rammed me head on.

Pretty accurate for the bf110 it’s not good as a fighter.

Neither have I, in many hours so far in the new Career.

I have a half dozen or more Careers underway and its really a lot of fun. The mission design is far better than anything they did with Campaign mode and it's just really impressive on the whole. I can see how this will be extended into Career modes on other products and that's what I really think is exciting about this as they have built a system that they can easily (as easy as these things are) re-use in the future as its so flexible for any scenario.

Between Career and Scripted Campaign, IL-2 went from not having a deep single player experience to having one of the best. It's just really really well done!

The devs surpassed my expectations with the campaigns.

I agree. Best IL2 campaign ever from this team. I remember the old days from Falcon X when there was a "dynamic" campaign. Played a lot of that. This campaign as it is now is already very good and they (the dev team) said they'd be expanding it. It can even get better.

Can`t deny it`s good.

It is good, my one major complaint is the length of time required to fly to the mission action point. Even at 2x this feels too long. I really wish there was an option to start the mission much closer to the action point, as the long lead up flight often is enough to keep me from playing.

Fingers crossed for more improvements.  It's a great start though.

There’s still room for improvement and expansion, but overall it is immensely enjoyable and engaging, not least because of the “Iron man”-mode.

I greatly appreciate that there is now a career mode but unfortunately find it lacking in some ways which sadly undermines the effort that has gone into it.

General content & structure (squadrons/missions) 7/10 - Majority of content and functionality is great but lack of tracked names and stats for gunners is very disappointing.

GUI/Presentation 2/10 - layout of career information is a little illogically and inefficiently displayed. Personally can't stand the modern design, and the hangar constantly in the background. The GUI looks like raw output from a database rather than paper ledgers or chalkboards. Mission messages locked in with the fps destroying HUD is annoying.

Execution of missions 5/10 - hampered by AI behaviour and poor command system. Also very annoying to lose all of the flight when the player bails out. Really need proper unique bomb sights for each aircraft.

After waiting years for the career mode, it seems to have unfortunately highlighted some of the AI and game quirks, and as it stands I find it difficult to play. I want to care about the flight but too often feel they are too 'dumb' and either not worth saving, are suicidal or are going to be lost en masse due to the game mechanics.

+1

Thats the reasons I stopped with my career progress. The AI & command system kills all the motivation and unrealistic amount of losses in the players flight(s) ruins the immersion most of the time.

Career mode was a right step in the right direction but needs a lot of tweaks and improvements.

I will stick to scripted campaigns & PWCG untill futher patches.

Wouldn't PWCG and scripted campaigns also suffer from the same AI and command systems?

Even with a few quirks, I am thoroughly enjoying the Career mode.

One thing I find aggravating with flying the Bf 110 is the AI's inability to realize how close it is to the ground. Time and again I've watched undamaged 110s plow into the ground, simply because the AI tried to make a maneuver that was wholly uncalled for at such a low altitude.

Yep. More of my squadmates have fallen to the ham fist than the Red Star.

Mostly yes.  We are all using the same AI.  The only difference would come if variations in mission design caused the AI to react differently, but that sort of thing would be more accident than intent.  On the bright side, every AI improvement also improves all of the above.
