SCG_Schneemann Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 Can I get some of you guys to double check me? I believe something has been buggered at dawn for searchlights and landlights. I have an Oct 2 1941 Moscow dawn raid and about two weeks ago the land lights that light my runway turn off at 6:37, and enemy searchlights do as well. It's still dark, and I have been running this for 6 months and they usually shut off around 7:30 or so. Sunrise per the internet was 6:33, and the sun is just beginning to creep over the horizon shortly thereafter. I think something has slipped. Can one of you guys try a quick 5 minute thing around dawn to see what happens to you before I report it as a bug? Lights shine across the runway, but turn off about 6:37... [DBS]Tx_Tip Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 Have you tried using the Date time Trigger MCU to force the landlights to stay on? Additionally the Sunrise Time for that specific Date in game can be found in the daytime.cfg file within the Data folder. Whether this can be changed I have no idea. But I'd make sure to create a backup before you go mess'in around with it. Use of the Date time trigger is in Jim's manual. Good Luck. Tip
SCG_Schneemann Posted May 1, 2018 Author Posted May 1, 2018 Yeah, I'm not sure the date time trigger will work. I think it's coded that they shut off at a certain time past dawn, and something changed in 3.002. They never used to shut off in the dark. I've used it before, but it just activates or triggers "something", and if the "something" is OFF, if doesn't turn it on, it just makes it available. Searchlights and landlights are coded into the time. Thanks for the idea though - I'll still try it, but not holding out much hope.
Flynco Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 Try this Mark a Runway With Lights You can mark the edges of a runway with lights to help pilots find it at night. Do the following: 1. Place "landlightger" (German) or "landlightsu" (Soviet) effect objects along the edges of the runway and make them linked entities. Orient the icons in the direction in which you want the light to fall. 2. Object link two force complete commands (pg. 242) to the effects. 3. In the force complete command advanced properties, set Priority to "Low" (lights on) for one command and "Hi" (lights off) for the other command. 4. Trigger the force complete commands with target links or message links from other mission elements. For example, you can turn the lights on or off based on the presence of a plane in the area. See Detect Objects In Relation to a Defined Area (pg. 81) for more information.
SCG_Schneemann Posted May 1, 2018 Author Posted May 1, 2018 Flynco, the issue is not turning them on or off, it's what I believe is a coded thing internally that prevents searchlights from shining in the middle of the day. There is a "time" after dawn, which of course varies, that they automatically shut off. I believe in the last update they somehow messed with that time. What once worked beautifully is now somehow not working. They are shutting off at Dawn instead of 45-60 minutes later, as previously worked.
Junjun_Nikurasu Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Well sir Flynco, I tried bombing an airfield at night. And guess what, AI manned the searchlight fail to detect me. Why? Why does the searchlight (designed to early detection at night) refused to turn on when I'm in the area!

Schneemann light test 3.zip Schneemann, sorry, I missed trying out your mission when you first posted. Indeed, the lights shut off at 6:37. According to the daytime.cfg file in your game /data directory, sunrise for 1941-10-02 is at 7:00 am, 23 minutes after the lights shut off. 6 hours ago, Junjun_Nikurasu said: Well sir Flynco, I tried bombing an airfield at night. Can you post your mission please. Did you check that the searchlight was the opposite country to your plane? What date and time was your mission and what time did you arrive over the target? See my reply to Schneemann above; maybe you arrived too soon after sunset for the lights to activate. Edited June 30, 2018 by JimTM
SCG_Schneemann Posted June 30, 2018 Author Posted June 30, 2018 Yeah, Jim, I think something slipped in 3.002 or so. They seem to not have a buffer, and have resorted to sunrise/sunset. It's a game issue methinks.

Well eeeh, its a quickey mission, (also please don't put "quickey" out of context, Don't asked...). And Its a test to if the issue holds any water, however I tested it at near 20:45 pm or 01:35 am (Well sorry my memory is kinda dumb). So yeah its pitch darkness, so it would be common sense for em to blare their searchlights as they hear the my plane incoming like they should in the Silent Hunter Series.?
