Anyway, one of his favorite things to do - and mainly when I am wearing my Rift headset and flying, is to jump in my lap, try to get some lovin, and then lay down in my lap. Makes for some interesting Career missions. If the going gets too tough, I brush him off quickly. I don't think he quite appreciates it. Very startling at times when I am not expecting it LOL, dang cat plonking into my lap seemingly out of nowhere. So do I. Fat little fella - very! Shares the same habit as yours though first has to brush himself against each of the sensors. Remarkably disorienting.
DakkaDakkaDakka Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 (edited) Setting aside the namecalling for a moment - am I to understand that it's not currently possible to setup VR to use exponential response curves, to enable better than 1:1 movement? You can certainly setup TrackIR to function that way (1:1), but as noted, this is a video game that we play for relaxation (as opposed to attempting to resist or impose world domination as it was for the real pilots who had to get shot by real bullets), so many choose to make the quality of life upgrade to improve their fun. I didnt realize people were actually antagonistic towards each other over this, and although I might just be delusional I dont think people are really all that serious. That said I cant get my head round why anyone would want to take 1:1 and alter the immersion for the sake of a few more kills here and there! Edited May 4, 2018 by Wolf8312
BeastyBaiter Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 I think it's just two people, Wolf. I've gone from hat switches to TIR5 to VR over the course of 6-7 years (not counting 15+ years of HAT switch only prior) and I don't think any of them are truly at an advantage. They are different but one is not better than the other. Hat switches offer a super stable view, ideal for hunting and tracking single pixels in the distance. TIR offers easier visibility around cockpit framing, but tends to be jittery, thus making distant spotting and tracking harder. VR offers depth perception and better tracking, but comes at the price of resolution and ease of checking 6. I like VR the most of the methods due to the immersion, but I don't think it puts me at an advantage or disadvantage in combat compared to TIR or even those using a simple hat switch. Oh, I also paid attention to how I am checking 6 in game. Turns out I'm not actually rotating the swivel chair. I'm leaning forwards slighting and rotating my back and neck. Result is I can look straight ahead about 160-170 degrees behind me. Moving my eyes easily makes up the rest.

That would be a ticket to puke city. If you haven't done VR it's hard to imagine, but the headset screen doesn't seem to rotate the way a trackir/monitor does. Your brain just interprets what it sees in the HMD as the world around you.

Yes, I've dabbled but am yet to fly a sim in VR, so I will take your word for it. With that said, I think, like anything, it's a question of practice and adaptation. Once HMDs with better resolution come out, I suspect more and more people will take the leap. I'm just waiting on Flying Circus to come out, and then I'm in. I think WWI bipes + VR will be a dream come true! 1
variable Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 I've messed around in warthunder with the biplanes in VR and they are a blast. Honestly, even with current gen (Rift CV1) the experience in IL2 is amazing and immersive. I could never go back to the monitor/trackir setup I had. 2nd gen will be even better.
[CPT]Crunch Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 There is an app that allows scaling like a trackIR, but it isn't compatible with Il-2, it does work in DCS. If you want to get extreme nausea it's the ticket. It no longer resides on my drive and I don't remember what it was named. Get a fishing boat seat swivel and an auto bucket seat, your stomach will thank you.
