screamingdemon Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 Hey there Skinners I have decided to go ahead with building a sonex tail dragger with standard tail feathers. I was wondering if anyone out there would be interested to propose a WWII skin for it. I was thinking in the lines of a spit mark IX. Blue with brown, yellow strip on leading edge. I would also consider some ME 109 paint schema. I have just purchased the kit so will be few years before flying , so I hope to catch some paint scheme ideas in the meantime. 1
CanadaOne Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 مرحبا A nice early version Spitfire skin. Classic.

I am a former SONEX owner. Fun plane. I didn't build it, bought it from the widow of the owner. Mine was all metal finish, except for the nose, which was an interesting color that seemed to change when you looked at it from different angles. I sold it but I had thought about giving it a quick and easy WW2 paint scheme. It would have looked great, I thought, left in it's aluminum finish with Normandy invasion stripes. I would have had the call letters painted on the side and it would have looked like a little P-51. I'll dig my photos of the airplane up and show you a couple. Wouldn't it have looked great with those invasion stripes? Edited April 28, 2018 by Poochnboo
Poochnboo Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 Kind of what this guy did, He even has little bombs hanging on the wings!

There's one thing, though, to remember when picking a paint scheme. It's a VERY small airplane. The brown and green Spitfire paint job may seem cool, but this isn't WW2. You don't want to hide from other airplanes. They need to see you. These little airplanes always look better with a splash of color, anyway. By the way. What engine are you planning for it? I had the 80 HP VW powerplant. I could hit about 130 MPH with that thing. And it's aerobatic, too. You're gonna have fun. Of course...you'll have to build it first! That was something I didn't have to worry about.
screamingdemon Posted April 28, 2018 Author Posted April 28, 2018 (edited) Dear Poochnboo I was thinking more in like this? I am going to use the aerovee motor which is basically the same you had. But this is also nice Edited April 28, 2018 by screamingdemon
Poochnboo Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 (edited) The green and grey scheme has always been my favorite look on the Spitfires. Never seen it done on a Sonex but it might look nice. Those roundels and the yellow leading will help give it some color. Well, one thing's for sure. You have plenty of time to think about it! Have you flown one, yet. If not, you're going to find that it's pretty docile on landing, for a taildragger. It never gave me a problem. I never once even came to close ground looping it. Edited April 29, 2018 by Poochnboo
HBPencil Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 When it comes to Spifires I always liked the look of the PR versions in PRU Blue as it showed of the aircraft's lines better, but to my eyes the best scheme was that of the experimental Speed Spitfire... nice'n'shiny!
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Poochnboo makes a good point about visibility and safety. There are some RAF training liveries from WW2 which provide a good mix though, with the green/brown camouflage but a yellow bottom. Here's the Miles Master sporting it: Alternatively, the Gladiator brings a good balance between "I can see you" and "you look great"
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 Adding some ideas for a pacific paintsceme (Hellcat inspired).
Poochnboo Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 I think out of all of the ones that you posted, I like the yellow with the shark face.
Poochnboo Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Yes, the owner had the plans neatly rolled up and handed them over with the airplane. I did the same and turned them over to the guy who bought the plane from me. 14 minutes ago, zimou13 said: one question though , were you given all the cnc drawings for evry single parts of that airplane ?
