Porkins Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 (edited) Just curious what people in the community think regarding the collector planes. It'll help inform my next collector plane purchase during the next sale. What's your fav and why? I've only flown the 190, Spitfire, and HS-129. For me the Spit is my fav. Maybe my favorite single engine fighter in the game, as she handles like an absolute dream. I have a bad habit of dog fighting too much and can't zoom and boom worth a s**t, so the Spitfire for me is the perfect plane, as it turns on a dime. Edited April 25, 2018 by Porkins
dburne Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Favorite = Spitfire. Why = well it's a Spitfire. 2 2
Cpt_Cool Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Im sure the Spit will be well covered ground, so I will say the P-40. Underdog mentality, but its versatile and rugged (if you are careful with the engine) and those 50s are so sweet. 1
Luger1969 Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Yak1b. Its like a swiss army knife. It does everything i ask and some more. Plus its a looker. 3
schurem Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 hard choice. I love the spitfire. Its gorgeous, sounds great and is such fun to fly and fight with. On the other hand, the Yak-1b is pretty darn great too. It's low firepower makes me aim better, it feels more skillful to actually take things down with it. It's also a fantastic aircraft to fly and look at. I just cant choose! I mean, the P-40 is fun as well and I do love me my La-5's dearly too...
smink1701 Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Spitfire until I get my hands on a P-51, P-38 and P-47!!!
rodgerdavies Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Macchi so far, though I'm looking forward to trying the G6, LA-5FN and Spitfire which I don't own yet. Apart from its lovely looks, I'm fairly new and it's very nimble. I can't hit anything yet anyway, so its lack of firepower hasn't annoyed me too much yet either! Although retrospectively it makes me sad that we probably won't see an Italian or Med theatre in 'Great Battles'.
ruby_monkey Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Hs-129. I have a soft spot for ground-attack aircraft, and for twin-engine birds, and the mighty Duck is just such a satisfying plane to fly and with which to blow up shit. And if you can get back home alive, you know you've done a full day's work. 1
danielprates Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I'll cast a vote for the Ju52. I know its not breathtaking, but as far as collector planes go, it get points for bringing into the game some variation in content. We can't just have high performance fighters and ground attack planes, we must have something different to fiddle with. For the same reason, I am very eager to see what that Po2 will look like! 3 7
angus26 Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I would say the La-5, I just like the way it flies and I haven't had a minute flying it where It wasn't enjoyable.
WheelwrightPL Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I love HS 129. I am a noob so I appreciate Duck's low speed, stability and nimbleness. Also the visibility from the cockpit is excellent which makes my noob landings less crashy. Plus you have lots of ammo feeding heavy, accurate guns. Again very noob-friendly when you're learning to aim properly. And last but not least I am fond of how HS-129 looks: it is quite compact, barely any larger than a single-seat fighter. I just like them small planes. And the Duck's style is no BS, all-purpose attack plane: no wonder it was built by a manufacturer of locomotives, it even has vertical engine stacks!
xvii-Dietrich Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Ju 52/3m. Why? Transport. Paratroops. Supply-cannisters. Air-ambulance. Tri-motor. Utterly classic icon. And something other than "yet-another-fighter". 3 1 4
Diggun Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Yak-1b, LA5-FN, then Spit. When the Spit IX arrives with 2x the cannon ammo load, then then I fully expect that to take over. Clipped wings are just the best look. Although my Pilots Notes for the Tempest V did arrive today.....
=WH=PangolinWranglin Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 P-40. I love it for its versatility, ability to take fire, 6 .50 cals, and instrumentation that I can read. My absolute favorite part of the plane though is its gear and flaps indicator. I love watching those little analogs move. 2
ST_ami7b5 Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I-153. Wait... (I will wait) OK, I love all of them, maybe P-40 a little bit more
Rjel Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 It would have to be the Mc.202 for me. I just enjoy flying aerobatics in it. Such a pretty plane.
kalbuth Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Fw190a3. Because. ... no clue. I used to have no love for this airframe in my various sims since EAW, the BoS one caught me unaware. The way it zips and turns at high speed, perhaps. La5 close behind
C130castrum8 Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 They're but all great but Ju-52 for the unique gameplay it brings and Macchi for looks. 1
Nil Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Tante Ju. Unbelievable fun and camaraderie by flying her, never seen before in any simulator 1
Wolfram-Harms Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I don't have all collector planes, so I couldn't compare them. My favourite so far is the Bf 109 G-6. A powerful engine combined with very effective weapons in an airframe with good abilities. (Major drawback: the bad cockpit vision).
Yakdriver Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 The P-40, but only because it has guns and bombs. Spit a close second. Cannot wait for the IX/c Then the La-5 (no experience with planes from the dark side) XD
Godspeed Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Definitely Macchi C.202 infact i have my own Macchi C.202 at my home 5

BOO Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 JU52 for the sheer joy for taking in the view and gentle pace Macchi for the Italian nature of things and The 109G6 - cos its a G6 - The Childhood archetypal 109 for me. 2

danielprates Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I would add, the american side needs a twin-engine medium bomber to stand ground to its counterparts! I mean, assuming the A20 won't appear in bodenplatte on the american side. If the B26 were to be made available, I would gladly pay DCS prices on it!

Ceowulf Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 So far I’m in love with the feeling of flying the I16. Their model just makes the thing so alive and yet weighted. I’m just getting into the Lagg 3 in career- those 90 high explosive 23mm shells make great Hollywood death scenes for the Stukas. All the complaints about the difficult engine management make me want to try the HS129 next. Guess I’m a fan of the underdogs. Ceowulf<><. Ps (off topic) hope we get some dogs for Flying Circus.
Stryker07 Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I am missing the La-5FN and Ju-52, but of the ones I do own the 109G-6 is probably the one that sees the most flight time. The 30mm is nice, and I can shoot quite well with it now, but it's the 13mm MG131's that are the star of the show for me. And the performance is good to adequate in all areas, so it's just a blast to fly. After that, and in a fairly close second, is the Yak-1b. Just a beautiful airplane, and will get you into and out of a tight spot pretty quickly.

It is not that difficult: just set automatic propeller pitch for combat (30 minutes max), otherwise keep the engines from over-reviing (easy because the rev-meters are located in engine nacelles).
-TBC-AeroAce Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Spit for me but it is kinda like easy mode so I will have to start using the Lagg more to bring balance to the force.
THERION Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 For me I would say the LA5-FN and the Yak-1b - beautiful aeroplanes with very good visibility. Why? Because they are most beautiful and not boring compared to the classics we know for years now.

Radials are pretty low on the prettiness spectrum, and the Yak-1b looks like it needs to lose some weight around the waist. Edited April 25, 2018 by Frenchy56
CanadaOne Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 Probably the Yak1b. It's my sniper plane. Gotta make head shots with that low ammo count, but a great flyer and a beautiful cockpit.
busdriver Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 (edited) de Havilland Mosquito... 3 hours ago, WheelwrightPL said: It is not that difficult: just set automatic propeller pitch for combat (30 minutes max), otherwise keep the engines from over-reviing (easy because the rev-meters are located in engine nacelles). I highly recommend you take some time to watch Requiem's Hs-129 tutorial. Rev-meters? Edited April 26, 2018 by busdriver
