ShamrockOneFive Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 (edited) I'm curious with how well this works with IL-2: BoX (its not on their supported page). I've been thinking about head tracking but I haven't been able to justify the full Track IR price yet (other costs come first) and I have been looking at other options. Any experience? It's a good bang for your buck that gives you nice 3DOF when you build it yourself. If you want to buy it outright, PS3 eye camera FreeTrack is better (since for similar price it gives you 6DOF - it isn't really necessary but a nice thing to have) How well it works? Flawlessly. ShamrockOneFive Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 You know... I think I have a PS3 eye camera laying around somewhere... Interesting!
TWC_Ace Posted April 25, 2018 Author Posted April 25, 2018 (edited) Bear in mind Edtracker Pro still can use pseudo 6DOF. In Opentrack software it is possible to use your actual roll (of your head) to lean over your nose and tail. You can also "duck" in the instruments and raise above the nose of the aircraft. Its very natural and convenient and I found ED tracker Pro a bit more responsive than trackir 5 since it isnt affected by any light and I can swing with my head like madman without loosing tracking which occasionally happened when I was using TiR (usually when I was looking way up camera would lost tracking - no matter in which angle the camera was fitted). RedKestrel Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I was having pretty serious yaw drift issues with mine since I got it a week ago, including really sudden swings to the left or right. The EDTracker guys (I was dealing with Rob) were EXCELLENT and even got me beta versions of this firmware to try out to fix my issue. After installing the firmware, some playing around and re-calibrating I think my issue is now fixed. I can't be sure until I've played more because the occurrence seemed so random before -everything would work great for some time and then bam, yaw drift. But last night I played for about 2.5 hours and only had one issue that a recalibration solved. Outside of this random issue I was having the device works great, its very responsive, and with OpenTrack you can get sorta-6DOF. I can even look under the hood of my I-16 cockpit and see all my instrumentation by tying pitch to the y axis. That said, I am having trouble mapping the x movement to the roll of the EDTracker in OpenTrack...it works fine when I'm looking forward but when I look backwards rolling my head right moves my view left. So the game moves my head position in the correct position but doesn't take into account that I'm looking backwards and therefore rolling my head to the right should tilt my head right. I've tried the 'relative translation' settings and it doesn't seem to change anything, except sometimes when I look left or right it throws me the opposite direction out of the cockpit. Obviously I just need to learn the software a little better and tweak some curves. Now that my drift issue appears addressed I can spend some more time building a profile that works for me.

I had the same issue until a guy jumped and helped me. You need to set relative translation settings (in Opentrack v2.3.9) like this and it will work as supposed to. Edited April 25, 2018 by blackram
