Hi All,

I had a problem just after 3.0001 was released that I would crash/freeze allmost straight away once i had entered cockpit. I was told to reinstall and all was fine after the reinstall but since the update I have the same problem again just crashes or freezes the computer and then I have hit the start up button on case and reboot. Hardly play the game now as I'm sick of restarting etc. bjt having said that OI do enjoy this sim once it does run which at the moment isn't very often!!

anyone ekse having this problem since 3.002?

Can't say that I have. In my many years of dealing with computer problems, usually when you have a freeze that requires a reset (as opposed to a crash to desktop) it means that you're dealing with a hardware problem of some sort. It could be driver related but ultimately the source is usually hardware. Sometimes people will say that this doesn't happen in other games or at other times but usually something like IL-2 pushes hardware to their limits and that's usually when you will notice the most problems so it takes the blame when the issue is, at least in part, located elsewhere.

Next time it happens, do a search in Windows for 'Administrative Tools.' Then pull up the 'Event Viewer.' Open up 'Windows Logs' and then 'System' and have a look through the event logs and see if you can find the last item on the list before the reset. Usually you can get a sense of what piece of hardware or software/hardware sub system had the error when the freeze occurred.

I should add... Have you done the usual things of opening up the case, making sure its free of dust, making sure that all cards and memory sticks are fully seated, etc?

Hi Shamrock,

Thanks for the reply think you could be right, I do have problems starting the PC most days I have to reboot 3-4 times as it freezes on start up or will open the windows logo and just hang there. Once it has started its fine for most things except IL2 just never thought it could be hardware problem just thinking software especially with the update to BOS, looking at a new PC build in the next few weeks/months something that will handle VR so may be all thing will improve then :o)

Thanks for the info.

Should have mentioned that from the top :)

Yeah I'd say its definitely hardware then. Something is going bad slowly so it sort of works but not at 100% and when you push to 100% then things go wrong. Good luck with the new build!

Yeah I should have but didn't put the 2 together, all made sence once you mentioned it could be hardware

While it may be hardware related there are a number of known issues that will cause freezes/crashes. If it consistently crashes when entering the cockpit then it is at least partly software related. I have been struggling with the latest patch, it has been causing my graphics to freeze.

I assume that your hardware meets the minimum spec, so try setting all your graphics options to the absolute minimum. If it still crashes then your problem is probably hardware related.

Thanks Kavoria, I'll check it out but the game was Ok before patch so could be I need to fine tune the in game graphic setting

hi, I believe the game  don't forgive much software or hardware incompatibility , I mean if settings are not straight the chances to have errors are bigger, you could have been just on the edge before the last patch and now the changes made you fall on the dark side, I d say like Kvoria, test with very low setting, specially thing who affect Vram, like landscape distances, and texture settings in video card driver..and like I say to anyone who got problems,... msi afterburner to monitoring what happen when it crash,

setup the monitor to see at least gpu % usage, gpu temperature , Vram % usage and cpu % usage, cpu temperature , ram % usage and let it run in background while you play or better on a 2nd monitor, those values can show you a piece of hardware to 100% usage, or if a component overheat when you crash , it s a good tool to use when adjusting your graphic settings too anyway ! good luck to find the problem Furni

I can't agree with the reasoning here. It would definitely be true if we were seeing that happen consistently across multiple systems and players but we're not and its not something that's either in a known issue that the developers have noted or the community would have been seeing it consistently.

Because we're not seeing that kind of reporting of this issue, it leads me back to some obvious hardware issues. IL-2 is going to push your (and mine and everyone's) system to a pretty high level. When I run IL-2, my CPU works fairly hard, my GPU and its VRAM are maxed out and my RAM is getting filled fairly high up too. If you have any hardware problems at all, switching scenes or doing something complex is going to punch things a bit harder and that's exactly when your hardware faults.

You might be able to run solitaire for a while in Windows but I'm guessing that whatever hardware is causing a freeze would also cause a freeze in other stress tests. Be it RAM, CPU, or GPU or some sort of issue on the motherboard with the bus or bridge subsystems.

Hi all,

Will check out what has been said but yesterday evening the comp started first time so I ran BOS all was fine till I hit the 'H' to hide the HUD then it just froze also have the same happening when I push 'M' for map, the game will freeze before I press the keyborad or joystick buttons all is fine I can use the joystick to fire gune and fly etc but when it comes to the hud or map it will freeze. The game has frozen while I have been waiting for the Quickmission to build once this is done the mouse will freeze and the only way out is to reboot.
