I have the impression, i may be wrong, braking power is far too weak.

Using buttons:

  • During taxi to the runway, when i have throttle just ~25% open and i apply full brakes i need really big distance and lot of time to stop if i don't set throttle to idle. It's similar for most airplanes i tried.
  • Other thing is after touch down it's really hard to flip over to the nose using full brakes. In other sims, old IL2 included, or DCS, if i put 100% brakes after the landing you i'm going to turnover the plane, fast.

(I noticed P-39 has strong brakes but i'm not going to flip because cobra has the wheel under the nose)

I thought why developers could possibly weaken braking power and i think maybe they weaken brakes because many players do not posses anaglogue brakes, only button all or nothing, it would make them turnover constantly.

I'm going to buy analogue brakes and it's my question: if i use analogue brakes my braking power will be still that weak i'll need full brakes anyway to even slow down a little or it is just weaken for button 0/1 braking? Or brakes were just that weak those days?

Cheers and have a nice day

For the German aircraft I use the independent toe brakes on my rudder peddles. They will tend to prevent me rolling with both peddles fully depressed until rpm is really quite high. They are effective enough to help me steer, and to slow down in a controlled fashion after landing.

Aircraft that do not have independent wheel brakes I bind to my stick pinky lever, which is digital, by pumping this brake I achieve my desired effect.

Would we, or even the aircraft designers of the time want to design the brakes to be "sharp" ? I wouldn't have thought so

My only RL experience is in a Cessna and the breaks were quite weak. The instructor actually said not to use them if you can. No idea what they were like on ww2 birds but in game I have no issues. I much prefer the differential type to the individual toe ones.

I asked after the introduction of the Bf110 E2 in the Question for Developers thread, why the brakes of the 110 are so uneffective. Han's answer was, that the brakes are made so effective, that the aircraft can brake down to zero speed after landing, as it was historically. The issue, I guess, might be, that effectivity of the brakes in game is linear, so they brake in high speeds as good as in low speeds. But IRL the effectivity in low speeds is much higher.

But are they Cleveland or Goodrich?
