sunrrrise Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 (edited) Hi, I am configuring my... gamepad to control tanks in Il-2. I have already set turning left and right on triggers, forward/back on left analogue but I cannot found the axis for controlling turret. I would like to have it on second analog. I think I have checked all the options, but nothing. Any help? Regards, sunrrrise Edited April 24, 2018 by sunrrrise
Flamboyant_Flamingo Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 The gun turret is normally locked to the axis of the tank. you need to bind alt-F4 to unlock it and be able to bind the appropriate key(s).
ShamrockOneFive Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 PSA: "Turrent" is not a word. Turret is however 1
Bilbo_Baggins Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 (edited) Sunrrrise, Why do people always call it a turrent these days? I hear this pronunciation more and more. Perhaps a Call of Duty yoof influence on the word? The turrent can be assigned to 'turn gunner's head horizontally' and 'bow pilot head vertically', found under pilot head controls section, but this is going to affect your airplane controls too. However, I'm not sure if you would really want to keep the turrent assigned to a game controller as the accuracy will be orders of magnitude better with mouse. Edited April 24, 2018 by Mcdaddy 1
[APAF]VR_Spartan85 Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Never heard turrent before.... spell check auto corrects it to turret..... whooooo says turrent!!!??? Ok ok but seriously mcdaddy is right with the control set up... i got my head/turret set to mouse default and left/right turn on my rudder, throttle to joystick throttle... when opened hatch I uncontrol the gun and look around free.. Also don’t forget about ammo selection and range adjustment for your tanks... i cant wait for tank crew, and to see what magic they will toss into the mix!

Actually I hear it all the time now. That's how the Call of Duty and Overwatch youths say it- "get that turrent!". I think I first heard it with the Command and Conquer Red Alert series back in the day, but now everyone seems to call them turrents. Edit: I did a search and found this from the urban dictionary: Common misspelling of the word "turret", which is a type of machine gun, usually misspelled by a person with a third grade education. Or someone that attends Meadow Bridge High School. Edited April 24, 2018 by Mcdaddy
[APAF]VR_Spartan85 Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Lol... no offence to the OP... it’s actually an interesting mishap...
Bilbo_Baggins Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Absolutely, I think it's quite interesting how language changes over time. There's no denying it either.
ShamrockOneFive Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 People have been misspelling turret for a while. And take the same ribbing that they got here. Slowly we correct it but then another generation makes the same mistake

[APAF]VR_Spartan85 Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Well, just for fun.... the original “turret” was the tower in a castle.... usually for lookout but then fitter with catapults or trebuchets .... or whatever crazy contraption they would come up with.... they could rotate them up there to have full coverage of their fortress... im assuming later developments included cannons, then artillery batteries, then implemented onto ships, then to tanks... we must stop this so called evolution of language.... it’s chowda!

sunrrrise Posted April 24, 2018 Author Posted April 24, 2018 Haha, it is just a typo;) I know it should be "turret", not "turrent". I am wondering how it is possible that I made it twice. Possibly because of tiredness... (and English it is not my native language). Ok, back to business: any tips regarding axes assigments?

Ok, back to business: any tips regarding axes assigments? wouldn't it be the axis for moving the head in game? I think being in the turret means that you cannot look around you, and only down the optic.

sunrrrise Posted April 24, 2018 Author Posted April 24, 2018 (edited) Thank you. Perhaps if 9 of 14 posts (plus two posts made by trolls) in this thread were not about extremely funny typo, your answer wouldn't be overlooked. And unfortunatelly those axes does not move turret. It can be something about analogue stick though. (By the way, I have corrected my first post, no need to repeat this extremally funny typo over and over again.) Edited April 24, 2018 by sunrrrise 1
