Zoltann Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 After about 15 years service I am thinking about upgrading to state of the art HOTAS. I have the MS FFB2, and Saitek X45 as throttle and it served me well through the years. Lacking a good FFB stick, I feel like pulling the trigger on a combo TM Warthog Thrust / TM Warthog grip / Virpil base / Table grips. Whats keeping me is the idea of no longer having FFB. It really helps on impending stall to ride the stall. Do I have to sacrifice that? Any ideas welcome. I am considering a Force Feel seat cushion, but IL2 does not support this (contrary to DCS and WT...) Anybody experiance with that? Thanks
SCG_motoadve Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 I went from a MS FF to a VKB Gunfighter Pro, a lot more precise, liked it a lot. Then went to a Virpil with extensions, even better, extensions make movements more realistic, a short joystick with no extension is like flying an Airbus or Cirrus. Extensions you make the movements as a real WWII plane. I missed Force Feedback so connected a Buttkicker to my Joystick base and its awesome.
Zoltann Posted April 24, 2018 Author Posted April 24, 2018 Hi motoadve, But i thought the VKB Gunfighter Pro already had an extension? If so why switch to VKB? I have a buttkicker too, thats a great idea! Anybody having experience with seat rumbler and IL2? I know its great for other sims.. Thanks...
Zoltann Posted April 26, 2018 Author Posted April 26, 2018 eeehrm.. no more flyboys with relevant experience?
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 I do have, with Bos I use virpil and I don't miss MSFF2 because of precision and more buttons but in Rise of flight I prefer using MSFF2 because lack of trimms in that old crates and feel of air around control surfaces. I don't see how without adjustable axis curves you can tame those aeroplanes which are constantly pitching up... Other hand with FF they do not pitch up like crazy and you can use linear 1:1 translation.
=EXPEND=Tripwire Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 I went from MS FFB2 to VKB Gunfighter Pro with MCG Pro. The extra precision is the key difference. I had turned off FFB for a few months prior to the switch due to game bugs which I have commented on before, so didnt really have too much change once I got my new stick. It took a good 3-4 weeks though to retrain muscle memory and be at the same level I was prior to the new stick as the extension is quite different. Wouldn't go back to FFB now unless something really special came out and had a ton of positive reviews. I do miss the ability to just let the stick go and have a pseudo autopilot function though when I need to actually find some keys with my VR headset on.
Zoltann Posted April 26, 2018 Author Posted April 26, 2018 Thanks Tomcat and Tripwire! So that sounds like keeping my ffb2 on the side. (also ROF flyer, VR soon hopefully) Not so sure, its a huge investment...
MaxTurn Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 (edited) I am in the U.S. and have two MS Sidewinders. I bought them cheap when they were discontinued. I spent hours last night trying to order a VirPil stick with base, extensions, and the mount. I tried twice using an AMEX card but their equivalent of PayPal (ASSIST??) does not accept AMEX even though they show an AMEX card and state they are certified by AMEX. I then used my wife's VISA card and it was declined. Not surprised because they are in Europe. I am going to try again once I find out the total amount and will call VISA and tell them the charge is OK. Ordering the Milan Crosswind pedals was much easier and mine are supposed to ship this week (I use PayPal for a lot of things so my credit card numbers are maybe not as visible). I will point out my e-mail correspondence with VirPil has been good and I understand it is not their problem. However, they need to have a different marketing outfit in North America. I was also interested in the VKB but the only thing available was a Gladiator through Amazon. The VKB store for the U.S. is sold out of almost everything. I will received the Gladiator today. I really appreciate these companies efforts to make high quality equipment. Someone in Cleveland or a similar hard hit city should try to design and produce similar products for the U.S. I know there are a lot of high quality small machine shops in states like PA and especially in OH. I also have been a shooter and collect knifes and have read testimonies to their machining expertise. Maybe we are a small market but we are also buying products which are premium (like buying a Tesla S or a Jaguar). With the IL-2 BOS and the subsequent releases and improvements then I hope we see a re-birth of equipment for the serious combat flight sim. My CH throttle and quadrant are fine for now but I would upgrade. Finally, while I have ROF, BOS, BOM, and BOK, I am new to the forums and just want to express my gratitude for the new IL-2 and all the efforts of the folks in the community. VKB Gladiator Mk.II "vanilla, Gladiator PRO and T-Rudder Mk.IV (latest versions) is listed as available in X-Plane store, I think the ones in Amazon is left over from early batch (~2016).
MaxTurn Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 Thanks, the one I ordered through Amazon was sold by the X-Plane store. I am getting ready to hook the Gladiator up in the next week and move my CH throttle and quadrant. I just have my controls attached to a 28 inch long 1 by 10 board using industrial strength Velcro. I have Crosswind pedals being shipped and plan to get either a Virpil or a VKB Gunfighter. Again, I appreciate your help.
Zoltann Posted May 9, 2018 Author Posted May 9, 2018 So... pulled the trigger. Got a priced down TM Warthog Hotas system, and ordered 2 Virpil Deskmounts, stick extensions, TMW throttel plate and dust covers. Took the T50 base to fix the TMW metal grip upon, leaving the TMW joybase out . Finished it off with VKB rudder pedals and... ordered the forcefeel seatback to help me in VR (Oculus) getting further immersed. At least, that is what I hope because the BoX devs still seem uninterested in providing necessary data to make it run properly, in contrast to the blown away competition... https://forcefeel.tech/products/forcefeel And so the waiting begins... should look like this: (Had a long stare at the Virpil Throttle, but could not justify the price difference as compared to this setup...)

Will be a great setup! I was anxiously awaiting the Virpil throttle also, but I too just could not justify the price especially as my Warthog throttle is still doing fine.
SCG_motoadve Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Just now, dburne said: Will be a great setup! Exactly my thoughts Dburne, having the Warthog working fine and which I really like, cannot justify the Virpil throttle.
