Windshield Parallax

The raindrop effects do a great job of distorting the image in view. I'm wondering if this new tech can be used to give curved canopies the realistic distorting effect. This could give real reason to use canopy modifications such as on the LA-5's flat windscreen mod.

See this video and keep an eye on the extremely curved sections of the 190's canopy, specifically at 28 seconds when the IL-2 passes through it.

I guess the key for topics like this gaining traction is to post in General rather than immediately in suggestions. :(

I don't know. The rain tech does have some limitations. As far as I can tell, it only distorts a 2d image of the scene behind the glass. That's great for small amounts of water, but would it still look realistic when scaled up to cover all curved canopy sections?

We would probably need to see the rain effects being used for something else like oil to see if it can be adapted to other functions. The rain seems to have at least some variation in how it distorts the image between the big fat drops on the front of a flat windscreen and the thin streaks down the sides.

All the parallax effect would be is possibly a permanent overlay in certain sections of the windscreen. How they handle the intensity is really up to the programmer so hopefully what they achieved with the raindrops is still fresh in their mind if they manage to look at this topic.
