its like comparing night and day.

I love my hog. (I keep the X) as a backup.

Firstly the Warthog is significantly heavier and larger. In that sense, it does feel more like the real aircraft.

Secondly the longer stick and better sensors may improve your aiming precision.

Thirdly the increased number of axes, buttons, and switches decreases dependence on the keyboard. Admittedly, this isn't very useful in Il-2 due to the simplified control options and uncomplicated nature of Second World War aircraft. However, it is absolutely vital in other games (e.g. DCS).

Needless to say, the Warthog is much better than the HOTAS X. However, is it ten times better to justify the price? I'd say that the answer to that is a resounding 'no'. If funds are no concern, it's excellent. If buying the Warthog means that you won't be able to buy the next Il-2 instalment, it simply isn't worth it.

If you're willing to deal with limited availability and potentially irritating international shipping, there are better options available in this price realm. It's worth taking a look, even only to compare the Warthog to something.

Even T.16000M+TWCS is an improvement relatively do HOTAS X, due HALL sensor in stick X, Y axes, some extra buttons and axes.

But invest in Warthog is advisable if you are involved in "jet games" (DCS, BMS), for WW2 flight games you will find better solutions - may more expensive. :)

I've been using a Warthog for years, it is a top-of-the-line joystick and throttle and has been totally problem free.

There are a lot of new hotas units on the market and some folks gush and gush about how great they are and then in the next

transmission they are casually mentioning that some little part is of poor quality or has broken/failed and they are re-ordering it from Bumfuk, Ethiopia and waiting weeks..

I use a HOTAS X and you're right, it will likely fail before too long and the throttle is not great. But it was cheap! I've used much worse sticks in my time all the way back to the C64 and Amiga days where joysticks took a good beating.

I suspect I'll progress up to one of the more advanced Thrustmaster products one day, but for now I can manage with what I've got.

Don't buy Warthog because it is a scam: it is all metal and impressive on the outside where you can see it but it has cheap poor quality plastic gimbal on the inside.

I suggest you buy something from Virpil or VKB, their flight sticks are all metal inside and unlike Warthog will last for decades with no degradation of performance and no maintenance.

I suggest you go to the section entitled "Virtual Reality and Controllers" and read entries in the "Mongoose (VPC) Vanquishes the Warthog (Thrust-master)"

about the failed triggers and the difficulty in mapping the keys to your Joystick buttons, that have been posted by current Virple owners.

Unfortunately, it is not all gush/gush about how great the Virple is and statements that it will "last for decades" when the unit has been on the market for

less than a year are considerably overblown, the Virple Throttle just came on the market this last month and has no history of performance.    In reality practically all Virple users still use the Warthog throttle.    Unfortunately, the statement that it is "all metal" is quite simply untrue, the handle is all plastic however the base is all metal.   The Warthog Joystick/Throttle hotas HAS been on the market for decades and is the performance standard measured against which the Virple is judged.

As stated, I have used my Warthog for at least 8 years with no problems what-so-ever and many of the users in this section, who are now Virple users still

have their Warthogs and  are not willing to give them up, and they willingly state this.    The only thing I can discern from their entries is that the Virple T-50 appears to be smoother in operation along with offering an adjustability in axis movement.   The Virple most probably has a future as a good stick but it has some definite teething problems.

Salutations pilots,

Yes, it is wise to let the passing of time allow one to better determine comparable quality, worth and or durability between items used for the same purpose ie HOTAS. :salute:

Yep, my Warthog is about 10 years old now, and still smooth with the original gimbal. I got it sometime in 2008, which is year it was released.

I did have one throttle brick, and one button go bad on the original grip - picked up another Warthog stick on Ebay and just transferred it's grip over to my original base.

While my Warthog stick is now relegated to back up, no way will I depart with it -  at least I know I have a decent working stick should something happen to my Virpil stick. Which did happen one time due to me screwing my original Virpil up trying to drill out the dang cam screw that would not budge.

I do love my Virpil stick, have logged quite a number of hours in it now and it is still very smooth and precise -  and it remains my first choice. I did end up with a broken flip down trigger and currently have a replacement trigger on way to me.
