-TBC-AeroAce Posted April 21, 2018 Posted April 21, 2018 So you are watching the latest movie where it goes all guns blazing in a space battle or whatever. You are on the edge of your seat, lapping up the popcorn and then you see an X52 or a hotas warthog being used in a multi-million dolla production. Alien Covenant, Gardens of the Galaxy..... The list is endless!!!!!!!!!!!!! Being a flight simmer kills movie emersion because prop people take the cheap root! Has anyone else sat at a AAA movie and turned to their girlfriend and said ow that's my joystick lol? But the funny thing is in the next movie I turn and say, ow that is my joystick also! For fun if you know a movie that uses a stick as a prop list it! Thanks Aero
RedKestrel Posted April 21, 2018 Posted April 21, 2018 Saw what looked like a warthog or similar in the new lost in space I think

Finkeren Posted April 21, 2018 Posted April 21, 2018 I don’t know. Did the fact that Imperial stormtroopers used refurbished MG34s ruin the original SW trilogy? I think it’s kinda cute, when you can see the props department cut some corners here and there. Makes you appreciate just how much design work actually goes into making movies not look like a pile of discarded present-day junk. 3

claw Posted April 21, 2018 Posted April 21, 2018 I'm already used to it and it doesn't bother me when the entire movie experience is OK. Take a look at this 60's German sci fi hit "Space patrol Orion". Taking on aliens to save the Earth while the engineer did the laundry.... That iron became as much a cult object as the entire series. It was great sci fi for its time and the story lines held up to series like Star trek.
Feathered_IV Posted April 21, 2018 Posted April 21, 2018 I recall seeing the crew of Firefly manning a German 20mm sausage dispenser during the movie Serenity. 1
BMA_Hellbender Posted April 21, 2018 Posted April 21, 2018 Star Trek Discovery uses the X-52 throttle. To be honest, there's plenty more things wrong with that show that keep me from watching it. 1
Chief_Mouser Posted April 21, 2018 Posted April 21, 2018 (edited) Interstellar has a Warthog joystick. Still a great film though - apart from the last three minutes. Edited April 21, 2018 by 216th_Cat
AtomicP Posted April 21, 2018 Posted April 21, 2018 Slightly related, it's amazing how often H&K G36 rifles or FN P90 SMGs get used in sci-fi, usually without any extra bits bolted on.
ruby_monkey Posted April 21, 2018 Posted April 21, 2018 Eh, Han Solo used a modded Mauser C96 while Luke Skywalker wielded a Graflex flashgun; the troopers in Aliens had tarted-up Thompson M1A1s humping Remington 870s; Deckard carried a Charter Arms Bulldog sprouting a bloody Steyr Mannlicher rifle action; the RAF at Dunkirk fought against post-war Spanish fighters; and apparently the tank most commonly fielded by the Wehrmacht was the M47 Patton. If all it takes to pull out of a film is a familiar joystick, then it probably wasn't that good a film in the first place. 3 hours ago, Feathered_IV said: I recall seeing the crew of Firefly manning a German 20mm sausage dispenser during the movie Serenity. Didn't Mal shoot down an Alliance ship with a dual-mounted DshK during the Battle of Serenity Valley? 1

Wow - I had no idea...way more obscure and hard to spot than Han Solo's Mauser.
=IL2AU=chappyj Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 I assumed the mg34 was deliberate in that it was making parallels to good vs evil . I always took the storm trooper to be a deliberate rippoff of the historical original
