Since i was forced to pause flying for a couple of days (stupid neck injury ), i picked up my VR yesterday since my neck felt much better.

Unfortunatly Oculus demanded an software update. After said update the Mura effekt on my Oculus was back.

For those who dont know this issue, its caused by an faulty black calibration of the oled display. on pure black backgrounds you can see lightly green or red mist of individual pixels, just like a fog.

Its most apperant (annoying) in dark games (Elite, the blue - deep sea)

This is a "recreation" of this issue

Just after i got my rift a few months ago, i found a solution (turning of "spud" in Oculus configuation) which turned this issue off completly. it involves some editing of your windows registry.

At first I was thinking about returning my rift for another one, but as far as i know, this seems to be a common issue with Oculus. No guaranty the replacement doesnt have this fault, maybe even worse. And since the registry solution worked, i kept my Oculus.

Sadly this solution only worked until yesterday. After the oculus update it doesnt make a difference to turn "spud" off or on. The mura effect is still present. I will try to get it working, maybe a fresh install or OC software. If nothing works, i will return the device and hope for a better one.

To the Rift owners, how do you deal with this issue? Who also has this problem?

That looks pretty bad.

I would definitely submit a support ticket to Oculus and send that puppy back for replacement.

Can't say I have ever seen this issue. I have heard of it over on the Oculus forums but not a lot.

thats what ill probably do. Dont feel like tinkering around an obvious hardware issue anymore.

The fact you dont seem to have this issue make me hope to get an non faulty replacement.

Some degree of Mura is to be expected, no panel is perfect (and no mura correction / SPUD is perfect either). If it's way too bad then definitely ask for a replacement.

Some users have had a better experience when generating a new SPUD file on the fly, or even turning off SPUD. It may be worth trying those first.

What is the downside of disabling SPUD? That may be too big.

Er, so. I had this issue fairly severely myself but never got around to actually trying those fixes (that I suggested).

But I just deleted the SPUD file and it's like Rift v2.0.

A new SPUD has been generated, so none of the downsides (Deleted spud = black smearing). My god it's so much clearer!

I have this problem too. I have done half-hearted attempts to solve this, but I haven't noticed any improvement. I only notice the mura issue in dark scenes, and it does not bother me too much.
