Gambit21 Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 ...appropriate for a destroyed vehicle. We currently don't have this correct? I just want to verify before I ask for it. I haven't seen one, but away from my computer and cant remember if I've tested every smoke object. The smallest black smoke I've seen/tested, which I use quite a bit is still pretty large.
TP_Silk Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 A destroyed vehicle will often smoke anyway. I haven't seen a dedicated smoke object for what you describe though.
Habu Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 There is no effect to add for vehicle. The smoke is in the damage of the vehicle.
Gambit21 Posted April 16, 2018 Author Posted April 16, 2018 I know, but I need a persistent smoke object to place for convoys etc that were destroyed on a previous mission etc. Thanks
SCG_Schneemann Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 Haven't put one in, but have you tried house_smoke? Not sure how big that is?
Gambit21 Posted April 17, 2018 Author Posted April 17, 2018 Hmm...I think house smoke is grey isn't it? I'll double check.
JimTM Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 (edited) You might try villagesmoke or city_firesmall, which require the "effect sustainer" (or some mechanism to keep the effect running for more than 16 seconds). See "Make Areas Smoke Due to Damage" on pg. 130 of the editor manual. Edited April 17, 2018 by JimTM
Gambit21 Posted April 17, 2018 Author Posted April 17, 2018 Thanks Jim - I use your sustainer a lot for burned villages and such. I'm thinking ahead to Bodenplatte and some things I want to do. There are several smoke effects that I use, but I forget now their labels...I'll do some testing. Seems to me though that we're missing that vehicle sized black smoke column - not sure which one "city_firesmall" is...if it's one I've been using or not. I'll check it out.

Not sure how big that is? house_smoke is pretty small and normally meant for use with chimneys I think. I'm not sure how visible it is from the air. If it is visible, that may serve for a "long-burned-out" wreck. Edited April 17, 2018 by JimTM
SCG_Schneemann Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 That's what I think he is going for? Not a huge blaze, but an "after the battle" type of thing. I am thinking along those lines too. Maybe the chimney smoke if it's black and visible might be good. Set two of them a few feet apart?
Gambit21 Posted April 17, 2018 Author Posted April 17, 2018 I'll look at chimney smoke - city smoke is much too large.
LLv34_Temuri Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 Tell us how it goes. I tried chimney smoke once and to me it looked like I would have needed to set it lower than I did. I didn't want to go through the trouble of finding the correct placing, so I removed it.

Gambit21 Posted April 17, 2018 Author Posted April 17, 2018 No worries - I appreciate your time and responses always Habu.
Habu Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 (edited) For information, one my teammate modified the smoke effect for our campaign, one or two years ago. We can do it without mod on. But you have to give it your new effect with the mission, and player have to install it at the right place. It had a new effect in the editor. I'm going to ask him if he can come and give you the trick, because i don't remember how doing that. Edited April 17, 2018 by Habu
Gambit21 Posted April 17, 2018 Author Posted April 17, 2018 Thanks Habu - I'm going to ask Han for this addition, plus a red smoke plume to simulate smoke shells that the forward ground controllers used to mark targets for the 9th Airforce P-47's, Mustangs, etc. If it's something each player has to install then it won't really serve it's purpose.

Celtarcs Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Hello Gambit,I created a Zip (to download) with a mission and files to add a fire and smoke. The new directory: \IL-2\data\LuaScripts\WorldObjects\mapemitters\smokes\Contains the effects of fire and smoke. After unzipping the Zip, the effects will be now in "Effects" (STEditor). After launching the mission "Example Effect Smoke", press F12, then F11 to move . If you have any questions, do not hesitate (sorry for my english).cordially smokes.zip 2
[DBS]Tx_Tip Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Excellent Celtarcs. Well done and very functional. Great addition to the effects library. @Habu... Where has Celtarcs been all this time time. You've been holding out on us.
Gambit21 Posted April 21, 2018 Author Posted April 21, 2018 Celtarcs - thank you. Unfortunately at the moment I am one of the ones afflicted with the "blank missions page" bug and can't test any missions until the problem is resolved. I will look at this as soon as I can. In the meantime, I have 2 questions.. First, does each player who flies a mission using this effect have to have this effect separately installed? It appears so. If this is the case then I'm afraid it won't work for my scripted campaign. Second...how difficult is it to create a colored (red) smoke?
Celtarcs Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 Hello Gambi,Yes, the players must have the files before the launch of the mission.Sorry, but I do not know how to change the color of the smoke. The files present in the Zip are effects already present in the game. There is no creation, just a reuse.Sorry for not being able to help you.Cordially
TP_Jacko Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 For the original OP I think if you untick delete after destroyed the vehicle burns smoke all the time 1

SCG_Schneemann Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 Yeah, I have had good luck keeping them on the field and smoking by unclicking delete after destroy.
Gambit21 Posted May 9, 2018 Author Posted May 9, 2018 Tested...the smoke stops after a time, a 90 seconds maybe.
