I recently borrowed my buddies Vive to try VR for the first time? It was incredible! Only thing was the Res was garbage. I fell right into the immersion and saw the Pimax 4K and ordered it. It should be in tomorrow. Is there anyone using this in IL-2 or DCS?

Thanks!

uh.. I think there's a scaling issue with all VR headsets except for Rift and Vive. I suggest not opening the box until you parse through pimax related posts here.

edit: if you want a headset with good resolution get Vive Pro. It's pricey, but it works %100 out of the box. Or get the Rift because it's cheap and very comfortable, and works 100% out of the box, albeit with lower resolution than vivepro.

Vive Pro would have likely been best to get better resolution with a solid product today, however it is pricey.

With any of these headsets you will not achieve as good a resolution as you see on a monitor, the technology is just not there yet.

I have been using a Rift for quite a while, well over a year and for me the immersion outweighs the graphical shortcomings by far. And the product just works, each time every time with no muss or fuss. It has been a terrific experience right out of the box.

Pimax did not see much success with their first product - the 4k.

They then began a Kickstarter a few months back to help fund development of their next product, the 8k which is currently in development.

Btw don't let their nomenclature fool ya, it is not really true 4k or 8k, that is listed resolution per eye. Two eyes don't equal double resolution.

Thank you both! I am going to give it a go. I saw the Vive pro was like $800 for only the head set, ONLY THE HEAD SET! I will pass on that for now.

OK guys, I received my Pi-max 4k today and tbh I am very disappointed. I literally saw no difference between the Vive (NOT VIVE PRO). There is still a screen door effect, the ghosting is very much there and very noticeable. There is also alot of  blurriness  when looking down at the ground. Identifying other planes is very tough, and I got tired of trying  it do to the waves I was seeing. Dont even get me started on the software, very buggy and crashes all the time. I have had the headset on for about 20 minutes before going back to the Vive. When you put it on there is some very hard plastic where yourt nose is and causes a little pain after a few minutes of wearing it. The only good thing was it was very light, BUT THAT IS IT! I have already received and RMA code from New Egg to return it. Just gonna save until a newer VR head set comes around or just get the Vive Pro. Maybe I am over reacting a little, considering I have a 32"  4K monitor and was expecting that with the Pimax.

Stay away from this product unless you want to be let down!

I'm an HapPimax owner, especially since the 3.002 upgrade that remove slight black bars in middle of view. I use the last 2.0.7.54 version.

Of course there is some ghosting (but only on head move, not on image changes), colors are pale, the frequency is 60 hz only. I also had to setup a postitional tracking with PSmove service and driver4VR and wear 1.5 reading glass in order to remove blur at center of view.

But there is no SDE at all and no "god ray", and for me this is worth of all the defaults above. So I do not understand what smoke_fan describe, especially if coming from a Vive...

I only borrowed the Vive and couldnt get the positional tracking to work from the Vive, although I read somewhere thast the base stations would work along with a controller. Just not the experience I initially had with the Vive. And no where near 4K. I have already sent it back today and had a strong sense of false advertisement. To me, it was the same resolution as the Vive. I didnt see any difference in the 2 and I was constantly swapping them out to find the good in the Pimax. I only play flight sims with VR. Yeah, I did go on a negative rant due to the fact that they are lying when they say 4K.

ive just discovered that my pimax 4k's lenses were too close to the lcd screen by a few mm, I inserted some spacers and now the irritating blurriness is totally gone.

Looks fantastic now,can read the numbers on the bf109 water temp etc, I dont even bother with super sampling anymore

. I tried the odyssey wmr  (same displays as the vive pro) but hated the sde and garish colors- returned it.

That's good news 5280magpie about your Pimax 4k. What did you use for spacers? :salute:

HI Thad. I used 4-40 machine nuts. Though the original screws will still work, very slightly longer replacements might be okay.

Did you come up with the correction yourself or was it presented as an option on a Pimax forum?

It dawned on me suddenly yesterday! I tested with the original lenses (pimax sent replacements) and the effect, when the lenses were too close to something, was the same as the

headset.  So I thought eureka!

My guess is that the eyepieces were engineered at the right distance but then the tabs were inset into the molding without adjusting the

measurement?

The 4-40 nuts might be a bit overkill but they were on hand..

It appears that the "one size fits all" original needs to be adjustable. :salute:

Oh, and how does it now perform in IL2?

its waaaay better.

Now that I dont need super sampling I get 50-60 fps on a gtx 1060 with enough bells and whistles on to suit my taste.  Can read the #'s on all the gauges and

-almost recognize that last bugger that sent me down in flames..

Wow, that is good news for us Pimax hopefuls.
