=gRiJ=Roman- Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 I have lot of problems to shoot or even hit the I16 when they start flying in very tight circles. What would be the best strategy? Turning is obviously a bad idea as you lose all your energy and the deflection shooting is extremely hard. If I climb and the dive ... Should I go in lead pursuit or behind? I cannot get the tricky way to do it
Gambit21 Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 At some point, sooner rather than later it will come to the instinctive snap-shot. That's THE thing you need to develop IMHO. That will serve you often, especially with the Rata - not pursuit as such.
PatrickAWlson Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 Option 1: Extend, return with an energy advantage, and try to put bullets where they are going to be. they might be hard to hit but at you're shooting at them and not vice versa. Once damages they tend not to be able to fly quite as well. Option 2: Extend, let them get fixated on one of your squadron mates, then shoot them. Option 3. Expend all of you ammo and go home. Remember, one victory is a great day, especially if it comes without losses.

Extend and gain height. 2. Select target, dive. 3. Shoot ahead of target . 4. If unsure or miss pull up and gain height using your energy you`ve built. Don`t hang around and chase. Rinse repeat until kill. Edited April 13, 2018 by seafireliv 1
SwallowFire Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 Try high yoyo next time. According to my experience one high yoyo is not enough and you usually need to repeat it 2 to 3 times. But eventually you can get fairly close to your opponent and now start turning with him. Closer range means less deflection and much higher chance of hit. At least that is the strategy I constantly use against AI.
-SF-Disarray Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 Yoyos, both high and low, are good options against a tight turning opponent. In a 109 you are particularly well suited to any number of vertical maneuvers to cut the enemy's turn off. Deflection shooting is hard, you are not wrong, but you have little option but to come to grips with it, especially fighting planes like I-16's. This thread is a good place to start figuring it out and there are some videos out there. 1
Gambit21 Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 Great advise on the Yo Yo's. If you want to be a real pro you can use the vector turn. Totally counterintuitive, but full of badassery if you can pull it off. It's basically a low yo yo but you turn the opposite direction. I've pulled it off offline - never tried online. It goes by a few names, and while not a beginner move, worth practicing. Requiem has a vid in it I think.
US63_SpadLivesMatter Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 I cross their flight path and lay down a stream of fire for them to fly through.
Bilbo_Baggins Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 (edited) PA_Spartan, These gents have already covered all the basics involved in defeating the circling I-16s you're dealing with. If you're interested in improving further, the only real way to improve your skills is to go online and fight multiplayer. Your skills will improve orders of magnitude over shooting AI drones, fast. You will very soon find that shooting bots just does not provide any challenge whatsoever. Multiplayer is where the real skills are to be gained. Good luck Edited April 14, 2018 by Mcdaddy 1
PatrickAWlson Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 For myself ... I'm old. Even when I was young I probably would have been killed on the first mission. SP and Bots work just fine for me 1
Bilbo_Baggins Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 (edited) SP is absolutely great for the oldies. Glad to see the SP experience has been improved for you with the update. Edited April 14, 2018 by Mcdaddy
=gRiJ=Roman- Posted April 14, 2018 Author Posted April 14, 2018 (edited) Requiem suggested me three maneuvers: 1. Barrel Roll attack 2. High yo.yo 3. Pitch Back Edited April 14, 2018 by PA_Spartan-
Lensman Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 (edited) I can just about turn with an i16 in my bf 109 F4 but it requires full combat power and I'm.right on the edge of disaster. Getting a firing solution is very difficult in a tight turn and largely ends up with the i16 invisible below my nose and a desperate shot in the dark which works maybe 25% of the time. Even with a GOOD angle it's often like trying to shoot a hang-glider because the i16 is so small. The real problem is chasing an i16 and failing to spot the 2 others closing in behind me! Nonetheless I've got lots of i16 kills ... now the P40 is a very different matter. Edited April 17, 2018 by Lensman
