Lend Lease

With the release of BoK we now have a wide array of American lend lease aircraft. So this is my ode to those aircraft, all taken from sortie's on WOL. The US lend lease program was an integral part of many countries ability to defend themselves during World War Two, mine included. After the fall of Singapore The RNZAF and RAAF consisted almost entirely of Lend Lease US equipment, without which we would have been defenseless against the Japanese Navy and Army airforces.

So what was the thought process behind choosing that song? Your post is supportive of America's role supplying arms, in a sense refuting the exhausted anti-war feeling of the song.

I won't judge your choice either way but am interested in your thinking. I think it was quite clever.

Well, first off, the fact the chorus is born in the USA, which all these aircraft were. The main reason though is that although this song is about the Vietnam war and anti war I felt the lyrics kind of told the story about a lot of these aircraft as well. They were considered second class and pretty useless by the American armed forces and so were sent off to foreign airforces to fight, where they distinguished themselves as extremely capable aircraft if used with the correct tactics. After the war though they all ended up being unceremoniously scraped or left to corrode away in a paddock, and still to this day they often carry the reputation of being next to useless.

War = bad.

Wildcat’s video = good.

End of analysis.

(5 stars from me)

That's true what you say about some of the aircraft being used well beyond ww2, I think they still used corsair's and mustangs in Korea as well. But I was more referring to the lend lease stuff, I will see if I can find the depressing photos of what happened to the rnzaf p-40's and corsair's after the war ended.

Edit: Can't find any good quality pictures but you get the idea

Good stuff, I like it WW. I used to hate that song until I actually listened to it (many moons ago, more than I care to remember!!) but the 'stadium rock' sound certainly goes with the video, as does the sentiment. Like I said, I LIKE it!

Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it. I find his songs often aren't as upbeat as they sound once you listen to the words, dancing in the dark for example.
