Selecting a gunner position from the start of a coop mission?

Hi all,

 

I've been learning how to use the editor to make coop missions for me and my friends, and I'm wondering if it is possible to join a bomber's gun position from the start of the mission. My friends and I found that if you join the mission part of the way through you can join the gunner positions of planes but we want to do that from the start of the mission. Is it possible? Is it an editor setting that I'm missing?
