I see that this has been discussed occasionally with no definite decision having been reached, but reading the discussion regarding the I-153 as a possible Premium plane  stirred up a vivid sense memory of landing the Chaika in twilight at the island airfield west of Leningrad.  That was a great map.

Ugh - no.

Maybe one day, but after battle of bodenplatte, battle of guadalcanal , battle of the coral sea, battle of Midway, battle of Iwo Jima, battle of Africa, battle of Italy and battle of britain.

I mean, I'd be happy with the introduction of Leningrad as a map.

I'm not really suggesting it, I want them to get to the Pacific before I get too deep into my 70's.  But it was a great map.

Well it's not planned and unless someone creates a map on his spare time a bit like the Velikie Luki map was done (I could be wrong) that will probably not happen as the devs have other plans and want to move on from the eastern front as a part of the players want more variety including me.

I'm very happy about Operation BP and what's next I mean the Pacific.

All we can hope for (in my humble opinion) is more premium planes and for now the Po-2 and the Li-2 are next in line but who knows we could have some nice surprises.

As for Pacific...they need to meet some milestones to even start working on this pacific area, so keep your fingers crossed the next two years will be commercially successful for them. As for filling the time until they might reach this business goal, selling campaign maps which expand the existing east front universe to 1945 with new planes and content is not the worst idea to keep the cash flow high. The other possibility of course would be to find an investor or sponsor for this pacific project. Jason explained some of the reasons for not doing pacific in the nearer future here:

Well, with all due respect Sir, but why posting this in the "Suggestions"-subforum then? :) Nothing against the idea of brainstorming at all, but this subforum gets used very inflationary, thereby creating confusion (= reposts) and covering up good and well-conceived suggestions.

Back on topic:

To me personally the Northern Front (divided into Leningrad and Karelian Front) is the most interesting part of the Eastern Front, therefore of the overall European Theatre.
First generation IL2 "Gulf of Finland" map was my favorite stock one, but it had its historical limits. By trying to cover Winter War, Continuation War, Siege of Leningrad and Volkhov Front with one map they especially limited possibilities for latter three. Important areas, like Karelia or down to Lake Ilmen were missing, thereby omitting important parts of the overall picture. What I'm trying to say is a simple rehearsal of the first generation map wouldn't be favorable in my opinion.
Like I stated in another recent thread I would rate anything related to the Northern Front, especially Karelian Front, second - right behind (many) Asiatic-Pacific-Theatre scenarios. But now that we already got three Eastern Front related installments, I feel I'd prefer Spanish Civil War for diversity.

If fewer people would be as narrow minded scenariowise and especially in choice of aircraft, Developers maybe wouldn't be in this situation. ;)

There are btw multiple ways of interpreting this statement, but that's off topic.

Ulp.  Posted here by mistake.  Intended to post in general discussion.  See?  I need BoP pretty quick!

Two-part answer...

No, I don't want another Eastern Front official release. After three development cycles over about five years, I've had enough of the Eastern Front and I'm glad to see the back of it.

There are a lot more places to go next, like the Western Front, the Med, the Pacific, North Africa, Battle of France/Britain, Burma, maybe the Korean War eventually.

There's no need to revisit the East any time soon.

But, I would welcome the idea of community teams or modders tackling new maps, and this third-party team creating aircraft to expand on what we have in the aftermath of a release. Li-2 and Po-2 are coming, maybe get them to work on things like Fw 189 or Hs 123, or I-153, or Cr 42 or whatever, and release them in small sets of two or four matched aircraft (like RoF did) or individually as collector planes. Choose types that allow for other sectors on the Eastern Front to be done, or different timescales to be done, but without distracting the main dev team from moving forward.

Then when BoBo gets released, add other sectors of the West, when the Pacific comes do that again.

The devs lead the charge and the third-party plus community modders move up after them and consolidate the ground.

Or, devs go forwards, third-party goes outwards.

the Med, North Africa, Battle of France/Britain - not gonna happen.

I really want Leningrad, it's one of these maps that could get summer, winter, autumn, spring versions. Be early war, mid, late. We could use most of planes that we already have. I think 2 more battles in russia is must have, Kursk and Leningrad. I also prefer to have 2 big theatres of war instead of spamming bunch of random stuff (bodenplatte ). Would always go for russia or new pacific than 1 time expansion about diffrent front. I just find it a bit boring to fly 4-5 planes per side, and on the german you get 2 versions of 109 and 190 anyway. Not much of a choice. I really hope we will get more ostfront expansions and kuban was not last. Then I am waiting for pacific, since it's huge there is a lot of battles to get, from small islands to bigger stuff like burma or east india etc.

I am already having a hard time pushing things to the back of my mind in order to be able to treat WW2 as a game. Leningrad would be too much. If you don't understand why, read about the siege of the city and its consequences.
