While I appreciate this sucks for you guys, as far as I'm aware WMR is not officially supported by IL-2 so in some ways this post is like me complaining that the game won't run on my xbox.

It might be more productive to ask for proper WMR support outside of this forum.

I don't think that's the correct analogy... Porting a game from one platform to the next is a massive undertaking. This is more like asking why a certain brand of flight stick doesn't work, or why the game won't render at the correct resolution for monitors that have a certain aspects ratio. It shouldn't need anywhere close to the amount of work that would be required to make this available on a console or different OS.

Agreed, OpenVR is used by WMR, and as many have pointed out, this appears to be the only game that has the problem. I've tried DCS and X-Plane, both work fine. I've had no issues with other non-flight sims as well. Many people have tried to guess what the problem is (and they are very certain about their conclusions :)), but the fact of the matter is only the developers can really tell us. My frustration is in the fact that they won't tell us. Other than a few vague statements I see about making sure WMR support OpenVR properly. Let's just assume IL2 team is correct, it is a bug in the OpenVR implementation by Microsoft, great, tell us what API you use, even if they don't have a WMR device, they know what API calls they make. My own 2-cents is probably the IL2 team is correct that WMR returns something different than Vive's implementation (since Vive Pro works), but it could just be an interpretation of how to implement OpenVR and with knowledge of the API calls, it can be fixed very easily. I can't imagine the fix for this being hard at all if they just tried.
