Basic AI stuff

Without getting into a deeper conversation about AI (because that could go on forever) I'm wondering how IL-2 Battle for Stalingrad might handle the basic tactical AI stuff? Perhaps people with RoF can give us an idea of how they function in a tactical sense. The Stalingrad battle was interesting because the Russians started in the summer still using old Vic formation (3 plane with 1 leader and 2 wingmen) and ended the battle using flights of four just like the Germans. The old IL-2 allows for Vic formations but the third plane is effectively the leader of the second element without a wingman.

It'd be nice to have the ability for the AI to function with both formation styles in mind. Thoughts?

Thanks for posting that IceFire!

IL-2 HSFX 6.0 has great controls for AI.

I wouldn't compare it to Rise of Flight.  It will have to be quite different.

Ja, and while it is constantly being improved (one or two, I believe three changes on the last patch) the ROF AI could use a good bit of work.

I personally wonder if going a lot faster might not make the RoF AI's shortcomings less obvious than they are now.  Kind of hard for it to hide doing dumb things when you're parked 3 feet away from it doing 100kmh :)

I will be once the new year rolls around... my bandwidth limit for December has been fully tapped and I don't want to pay the extra fees :)

I'm just interested in talking about some of the basic tactical structures of AI and the way that wingmen respond. IL-2 I know well and I fully expect certain structures from it... this new edition is a whole new ballgame :)

IceFire,

Rise of Flight AI do not cooperate the way you're used to seeing in Il-2.  They fly together until contact with the enemy, and then it's every man for himself.

Yes i remember u well from the il2 days!:) The AI in il21946 4.11 is some of the best i have seen!!! In ROF they could need some tweaking.. But at ace level they are deadly. My only problem is the the constant diving tight turns that will take u away to groundlevel very fast and there they are sitting ducks...

Hello,

I belive we find a correct configuration of the AI in COD, and now AI fly close to human fly, as well as in quete or schwarm or combat fly and missions are more realist than IL2.

You can find 7 composants for a group and for a pilot of this group, it's wonderfull.
