Bombers in my flight suddenly not firing

Hi. First post as a newcomer to Mission Editor. Set up a relatively simple SP mission consisting of a flight of 6 A-20B’s (player and 5 AI) with patrolling 109’s along their bombing route.

Have been frequently

testing and all seems to have been working fine until last night, after a few simple additions (adding in a take off flare vehicle and including waypoint translator icons). Tested the mission as per usual to find that all of a sudden, my flight, including my own gunners, are not opening or returning fire, noticing that even the combat-based radio call outs are missing. No problems with the 109’s, they now rip apart my flight with no resistance.  Entities are all linked and set to Russian/German etc.

Any help would be so appreciated as I’ve been working on this mission for a fair few evenings and was hoping to let someone come round and fly it tomorrow but all of a sudden, it’s a mission breaker to which I have no understanding of as yet.

You're probably going to need to zip up the files and make them available in order for people to look and see if they can find what's wrong.

Ah I was fearing you’d say that as I’m currently at work but yes certainly understandable and will certainly include them later. Thanks to all in advance.

This is the mission in question to which I'd be so appreciative if someone could be so kind as to take the time to have a look to see what the problem is. It's my first ever attempt with the editor and it's not as intuitive for me as a lot of ever clever people out there and so the mission layout may well be a little messy but it 'has' worked really well up until last night where I added in a few superficial elements like GUI waypoint info, flare vehicle etc and all of a sudden, my flight, inc my own gunners in lead a/c aren't engaging at all.

The 109's are behaving as normal and are attacking as are the flak emplacements ... it's just my A-20 flight.

It's a SP mission btw & it's path was as follows:

C:\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\Missions\Baz Missions

Thanks.

Baz.

From Jim's manual: Try setting your attack priority lower. Maybe they are so focused on attacking the bridge they forget they should defend themselves. You have it on HIGH.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at this. When you say 'Attack Priority' Where would this be found and changed? I'm looking in the advanced properties of the A20's but can find no such field and so I'm guessing I'm looking in the wrong place?

It's in your attack command for the bridge. It's not in the planes - you can just set the skill level there. The thing that you have object linked to all your Hawk planes, with the red triangular arrow and white circle...

BTW, you should just link it to your leader (your plane) since you are all a single "flight". Linking just the leader takes care of everything linked to him.

That worked. (Although now it's completely the other way around. The bombers are ignoring the waypoint and 'dogfighting' the 109's, following their every move and manouvre). Thank you. You're a diamond on a pebbly beach & many thanks also for pointing me in the direction of a mission editor manual. This Jim guy has talents beyond my comprehension.

Many thanks once again.

Hawk - the way it works is relatively simple.

Set the prio as low and the a/c will do other stuff in preference to passing the waypoint

Set Prio as medium and there will be a balanced AI decision between attack/defence and following the waypoint

Set prio as high and the a/c will prefer to fly on rather than attack/defend

This can be particularly useful when setting an intercept point as medium but when you want a flight to break off after a set time you set the timer for the next WP and then set that WP as high prio - this will make your a/c break off after that time and head to the next WP.

Got it. I'm negating common sense in favour of thinking it as an overly complex formula.

Thank you both greatly for your invaluable help in getting the gunners back onto their sights.

I think that this Jim guy's main talent is stealing the information off of three billion editor forum posts and putting them in a nice compact 350 page manual.

Wadda guy!

Btw, check out the other editor resources here.

Ah ... the man himself. With much modesty in tow. Yes this community is both fantastically knowledgeable and incredibly helpful in abundance. Thank you for the 'stolen information' youve put together to make what I'm going to see as a 'bible' in the up coming evenings.:salute:

Thanks Houndstone_Hawk! I've been the beneficiary of a lot of valuable advice from the generous experts and non-experts alike in this great community. Try to "pay it forward" when you learn something from someone.

Cheers!

Hey Jim. I’ve spread a little love from your manual in the non-official Discord. Dunno if you use Discord but I’m trying to get an active ME channel going over there where we can share information a little quicker. Any of you guys that are interested I would sure appreciate it if you would check in there occasionally.. Thanks!

Sure, I'll drop in now and then. You may want to post in here now and then to summarize any of the really substantial Discord discussions. That way, other novice mission builders can benefit from the information.
