taffy2jeffmorgan Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 Hi All, In careers, when flying either the Russian Lagg 3/La 5 FN or the German G4/G6, how far into the careers do you have to proceed before converting to the latter [ La 5 FN - G6 ] or is this just random Cheers
Dakpilot Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 Think it is July and June 43, respectively Cheers, Dakpilot
Yogiflight Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 For both aircrafts you have only the last two phases of the Kuban career. For the La5FN it is the 249th 'Feodosiysky' Fighter Air Regiment, for the Bf109 G6 it is I. and II. Gruppe Jagdgeschwader 52. But I gave it a try with the G6, and IIRC out of five missions, that I was flying, there were only two with the G6.
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted April 6, 2018 Author Posted April 6, 2018 (edited) Thanks Both. Edited April 6, 2018 by taffy2jeffmorgan
Eicio Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 I tried to take a squadron, in the adequate phase, with the la-5FN but I can only fly with the lagg3 and I didn't see other planes as well. Now I know that we don't have unlimited quantity of planes and that we should get them in small amounts but do you have to be squadron leader to choose the planes that each will fly ?
Lensman Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 Slightly off-topic: When I signed up to be a bf 109 fighter pilot I didn't expect to spend so much time dropping bombs on troop transport columns!

I agree, there seems to be no fighter sweep missions, which would have been necessary for either side to gain local air superiority ? Edited April 6, 2018 by taffy2jeffmorgan

Only the 249th 'Feodosiysky' Fighter Air Regiment is equipped with the La5 FN, so you have to select this squadron for flying it.

Did you take a look into your Unit HQ, if your squadron is eqipped with the La5 FN already? Maybe it gets supported after few days. But I remember having had one or two days, without any activities of G6s as well. At least one day, we were only flying groun attack missions with G4s.

I know that on my "main" career I randomly fly yak 7 and yak 1, I should make a test as a squadron leader to see if I'm able to choose who take the lagg and who take the la. I'd make sense. I made that test: when you're the leader you choose which pilots go on what mission, you choose the planes... However I'm in the jagdgeschwader 52 squadron, on the third phase I believe on the squadron only starts with g2, I bet that we'll get the new G6 during this phase. Well... this was supposed to be just a test but now I want to get back to it Edited April 6, 2018 by Eicio

As I posted above to taffy's question, the La5FN and the Bf109 G6 are only available in the last two phases, phase 4 'The calm before the storm' and phase 5 'Novorossiysk- Taman Operation.

Yeah and as I said I took the adequate phase that is indeed named calm before the storm and so far there is no G6 yet. So I'll continue this carreer and mark the day when we'll receive one, because when you start this phase there is no G6.

I was in the impression, that you have the G6 from the beginning of this phase, but there are indeed only G2s.
Eicio Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 No problem I'm just trying to know when the HQ is gonna give me my christmas gift !
seafireliv Posted April 7, 2018 Posted April 7, 2018 (edited) It was very interesting for me. Not using your aircraft, but I chose the I16 in an I16/ Lagg3 career for Stalingrad . In my first mission I was the only I16 among all the laggs. In my second mission I was given a lagg and someone else had the I16. I keep the lagg for about 4 missions before I and another pilot were given I16s again. Then in another mission 3 of us had laggs and behind us, too slow to catch up, were 3 I16s! Now I`ve moved on into the 2nd stage of Stalingrad and have been given an LA5. It`s interesting. I think you`re given aircraft depending on what`s available on the airfield. At the beginning I tought it'd be like battlestar galactica you know, you've got a plane with your name on it. But it didn't work like that and now that I play as a squadron leader I confirm that your squadron has a certain amount of plane, 9 G2 at the moment in my squadron, and every pilot share the planes: if there are 4 flights planned for the days it won't necessarily be the same pilots but the planes are the same. And with that little pool of planes you can attribute which pilot will get which plane. That's why as a vvs pilot I flew with a yak 7 one out of two flights. PS: When my squadron will receive G6 I think I'll only get one or two and thus I will choose which pilot will fly it, guess who... Nevertheless I'll got to be carefull not to loose those precious plane because we do not receive planes everyday and not G6 obvioulsy. 1

That`s pretty realistic. thanks for the info.

I'm the commanding officer of my squadron and they keep giving the wretched F2 for missions instead of my preferred F4. It never occurrred to me that I can possibly designate the aircraft ... I'll check later.
