BRADYS555 Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 Default Skin, So, is their a way that when u fly a plane it will just keep using the skin u selected last time by default, instead of having to re select the same skin over and over again, assuming u want to use that same skin each time u fly ?
DD_fruitbat Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 Yes using mods. You can now choose what you want for a default skin in mods on mode. All of my planes that have a 4k template have 4k skins for there defaults now, but you can choose any skin you want. The ai will also be similarly dressed.

If you are a Luftwaffe fan and using the 2K default in game skins, go with Panthercules and Thrawns mod then pick your favourite skin out of the set from the folder , shove it in the folder data/graphics/Planes/(aircraft type)/Texture, rename the skin you see in there (not the purple normal map) by adding _ORG to the end of its name and then rename your preferred skin so that it matches the name of the skin you just renamed (without the _ORG). Now that will always be your default skin for that aircraft. You can go further with the 2Ks in this mod by also editing the thumbnails in the folder data/swf/il2/worldobjects/planes/(Aircraft type)/Skins - here you can decide which thumbnail matches with skin in the selection menu in game and choose the default - TAKE CARE as you will also need to ensure that the skins in the data/graphics/skins folders match any changes you make. In the main skins folder (data/graphics/skins) all the skins APART from the default one are present. So if you picked skin 03 as you default and put this in the data/graphics/Planes/(aircraft type)/Texture and renamed skin 03 "default" in the swf root, you could then rename the original skin you added _ORG as (Aircraft)_03) and put that in the main skins skins folder and then also rename the original default thumbnail in the swf root to the same. This way you don't loose any options, have the ingame menus matching the skins and get to understand the games eco system a little better. Sorry- sounds convoluted but its a lot easier when you see the files!!
