TP_Silk Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Tangmere Pilots are currently on summer furlough, so now is the perfect time to get your OTU done in time for resumption of Ops in September.
DD_TBone Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 Hi Folks, Just wanted to see if you are still recruiting? A bit about me, I used to fly back in the old days for a squadron called AWL and ICAG before it became AWL (IL2 Forgotten Battles/Pacific FIghters era) stopped just before IL2 1946 I used to fly Allied side, RAF, VVF, USAAF. and was a fighter pilot primarily, although occasionalyl used to take an IL2 or PE2 out of a spin on interdiction and ground support missions. I never really flew medium or heavy bombers. I remember you guys from back in the day, and its possible I also flew missions with some of your crew in VEF and VOW. Ok so heres the deal. I just got myself a VR headset a copy of IL2 BOS and a burning itch to get back to the glory days. I recognise its been years since I last played. so Im coming at this from a learning from the ground up perspective. I need to learn the whole game and how to fly from scratch basically. Just putting out the feelers, as its always better to fly with and get to know other players. Im UK based, and from what I remember most of your members are also UK? anyway I need to get my ass in a plane and get some flight time in, so not in an immediate rush... but I will 100% want to join a squadron to learn, train and fly with. Tony.
No145_Bunny Posted September 12, 2020 Author Posted September 12, 2020 Hi Tony Feel free to click the recruitment button and send your application in. We are still recruiting in a measured and mindful way. Look forward to speaking to you soon. Bunster
DD_TBone Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 (edited) Thanks Bunster, I've just been ironong out a lot of tech issues so far, as Im new to VR and had to get my system set up right, but Im getting there. its been a bit of a shaky start... Im going to get a little practice in and also make some further tweaks to the performance and graphics etc... then I will tap you up for sure. Im managing to take off most of the time, and landing also is coming back to me, although I've had a few bumpy ones and bent props too. Im very rusty to say the least... and VR is a whole different experience to what Im used to. I jumped straight in on full real, I assume that how you guys like to fly? When you mentioned about P47 campaign, i assume I would need Battle of Bodenplatte? I dont have that yet, Im just on the vanilla with no addons of DLCs Edited September 14, 2020 by xxxXTBoneXxxx
No145_Bunny Posted September 15, 2020 Author Posted September 15, 2020 Hi TBone, You will need to own BOBP and also Kuban, Moscow etc... but BOBP is the most important one at the moment. We do tend to fly the most recently released aircraft and maps in our Ops missions. We do fly Full Real in some cases, usually on a Friday, but for the official Sunday Ops, we dont. We have outside views on and map icon. Hope to meet you in the virtual sky soon. Bunster
No145_Bunny Posted October 7, 2020 Author Posted October 7, 2020 The Tangmere Pilots are getting ready for a new Tempest campaign, starting in a few weeks. Can you tame the beast that is the Hawker Tempest ? Are you ready to experience a virtual 1940's world ? Will you get a DFC ? Maybe a promotion to Flying Officer ? Can you pass OTU (Operation Training Unit) ? Answer all of these questions and more by taking a look at our website... S! Bunster

Fixed it for you. ?️ von Tom

TP_Sparky Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 (edited) Propwash November 14, 2020 Tangmere Pilots finished their first IL2 BoX USAAF campaign, flying P-47D in the Ardennes Campaign. We “retooled in roundels” in the 122 Wing RAF flying Hawker Tempest Mk.V on the Rhineland map in squadron markings created by Fritz. [Quoting from Dutch's excellent campaign brief] “From late September 1944 onwards 122 Wing comprised of Nos 3, 56, 80 & 274 squadrons RAF, & No 486 squadron RNZAF, & it's the operations of these five squadrons that will form the basis of our missions.” Last Sunday our two squadrons, No.1 and No.601, taxied out with 23 pilots in two squadrons, all using the same server. No. 601 squadron flew low looking for targets to bomb and strafe while No.1 squadron flew top cover. Here is just one of the squadrons. The Tempest flies beautifully and has the power and speed to match German fighters yet maneuvers well. The Tempest's four 20mm cannon are able to blow apart German fighters with a half-second burst although hitting the cockpit with a 20mm makes other damage irrelevant. Another satisfied customer. However, a change in the damage model means more debris is blown from damaged aircraft. Even if you break off sooner there's a significant chance that debris hits your aircraft and shatters the canopy or destroys your propeller as Tom found out to his distress last mission. He showed particular panache in shooting down yet another Jerry as he dead-sticked down across the front line to ditch in friendly territory. Show off. An improvement in the G-effect allows pilots to ride the ragged edge of performance envelope as in real life rather than the previous "Poof, you've blacked out" G-effect. Now you ease into gray-out. And then into tunnel vision. The progression is now much more nuanced and realistic, allowing you to fly and fight using your aircraft's full potential. Yet another RAF addition is the venerable Hawker Hurricane Mk.II in its various configurations, everything from the .303-equipped Battle of Britain Mk.IIa through desert modifications and Soviet-used weaponry. She’s a sweet flier, docile and maneuverable but must be careful with 109s and the .303 are less than impressive. “Don’t just stand there. Get one up!” Edited November 15, 2020 by TP_Sparky

von_Tom Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 The only place where Bunny can crash into a squad mate, jump into the gunner position of another squad mate and accidentally shoot out their elevators to cause that squad mate to also crash and die. Order of Lenin in one mission, flying for the Luftwaffe... And now he wants YOU in Heinkels and Stukas. Think very carefully about this... It is also the only place where if you make a silly mistake it will stick with you for years, and years, and years. Decades even for some of us. Not me though, because I never make a mistake and my uniform is made of Teflon i.e. non-stick. von Tom
