No145_Bunny Posted January 7, 2020 Author Posted January 7, 2020 (edited) Some recent comments from members who have joined us:- "I didn't get the free sex that was promised, although I had to run away quite fast sometimes to avoid it" "Which way do I point the pointy end of the aircraft ?" "Ooops Moggy that tank got us in the tail, ahem...." (attributed to a rear gunner, but no one knows who) "I didn't even know that I had undercarriage!" "Head SW, I meant NE, errr... somewhere over there..." (possibly said by the same rear gunner as above) "Thats the wrong end of the runway to land from, and its the wrong runway and its an enemy one" "Who's got Novembers copy of Big & Bouncy ?" FTC_Riksen Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Hey Bunny, What times are the campaign missions usually played at? I'm no longer attached to any squadron and would love to participate in the campaign if you guys take me as a Spitfire pilot ?
No145_Bunny Posted March 2, 2020 Author Posted March 2, 2020 Hi Riksen. Ops night is sunday at 9pm uk time. We also fly on a Tuesday and friday at the same time. Sunday is the critical one and you must be able to fly on a sunday. If this suits, click the recruitment link and let's take it from there. Bunster
Davee Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 Don't bother registering for this group. No replies nor confirmations of signup. Pretty sad really. It shows how passe they are.

It shows how passe they are. The admins of the site have jobs and families and don't see activating account registrations as our raison d'être. As it is, I see that your registration was activated on the 3rd March. To everyone else, registering on our forum gives limited access with full access only after the first week of OTU. If people apply they go through a 4 week OTU so they get to join us on Tuesdays and Fridays, but not on ops on Sundays. This is to allow us and them to look at each other to see if the "fit" is right. Flying ability isn't as important as being the right sort of chap. It works though and we're a pretty harmonious group. von Tom Edited March 5, 2020 by von_Tom

Toots_LeGuerre Posted March 27, 2020 Posted March 27, 2020 Should there be any misunderstandings: I am a Tangmere Pilot since 2005, currently in the Inactive Reserve Roster awaiting a new computer that can handle the increased complexities of the IL2/BoS simulation. My current huge life regret that keeps me from 'Getting one up' especially now that they are flying Spits, is that I am no longer on TP Ops. As a fifteen year veteran, off and on, let me say that there are no better chaps to fly with, anywhere. I am in the US, but have flown across the Big Pond twice to attend their annual meetings. The hilarious misconsequences of the mug ups afterwards, I will try not to describe. Let me say that in the finest RAF tradition, many brave pilots spent the night comatose on the floor from too much 'bonhomie' and far too many 'pints'. For Real Life Friends and Virtual Combat in the war torn skies over WW II Europe, get yourself to the Manning Depot, enlist, get your four check flights behind you, and 'Get One Up." P/O 'Nummy' 601 Squadron and 43 Squadron. Currently Inactive Reserve
TP_Sparky Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 I'm a Yank so I fly at 3 pm Central Time Zone. I flew military and find No.1 squadron like the real guys I flew it. We fly official missions Sundays and on Tuesdays and Fridays we practice fly co-ops, in an online server, Flying Circus, and the occasional Vicious Carrot missions designed by Bunny. Tis great fun with a wonderful group. Half of us are in No.1 and the other half in No. 601.Each squadron has it's unique character. We joke around a lot but missions are pretty realistic. I've sometimes flown with other groups of guys on nights Tangmere isn't flying. The other groups chattered constantly and scattered like quail to pursue their intended victim. Tangmere Pilots joke around but we keep mission communication within reasonable limits and when contact is made, comms are for managing the battle. Tangmere Pilots brought me back to when I strapped one on and slipped the surlies.
JG1_Daze Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 You have my interest. I'm EST time and work early (wake at 4:45 am) most squads are wheels up at my bedtime I have IL2 GB's ,Flying circus(my fav) and also DSC I fly VR only.

No145_Bunny Posted April 9, 2020 Author Posted April 9, 2020 (edited) We still have a few Spitfires lined up in the hanger ! Want one ? Best join us then pilot..... have you got what it takes ? UFA_Bagel Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 (edited) Greetings to Tangmere from Duxford! ? Co-op missions sound amazing! Is your OTU more like an examination to confirm qualification or training course for novices? Edited April 19, 2020 by 159BAG_elegz
TP_Silk Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 OTU serves several purposes. It confirms that you can keep the spinning bit pointing forward most of the time while allowing both you and us to decide whether you fit in.
JG1_Daze Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 I certainly hope I manage to "fit in". Your a great bunch of blokes. If not then absolutely no hard feeling, I'm kinda of awkward right now.
No145_Bunny Posted April 20, 2020 Author Posted April 20, 2020 (edited) Lennon, keep plugging away at OTU and before you know it, Tom will have you posted to 601 Sqd with all the other "awkward" pilots :-). Joking of course... you will be just fine I'm sure. Edited April 20, 2020 by No145_Bunny

If not then absolutely no hard feeling, I'm kinda of awkward right now. Kinda awkward, maybe, but to be fair this is a kinda new thing for you. You'll be fine. @159BAG_elegz our OTU is a fit and function kinda thing. Do you "fit"? Do we like you? Do you like us? Can you be bothered? All important things and we do get a lot of chaps who start and then don't finish. Sometimes we know why, but most of the times we don't. That's ok and it's the way it goes, with no hard feelings. Those that "fit" and can be bothered tend to stay around forever. The flying element is relatively straightforward with a basic ability needed to take off, stay in formation and land. You wouldn't believe the number of very experienced chaps who still have takeoff or landing accidents... Take Lennon (above) for example. Lovely chap and we hope he hangs around. It'll take time to get him up past the flying element of OTU so that he can join us on ops, but if time is all it takes he'll be fine. von Tom
TP_Silk Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Was similar for me when I first joined. I was trying to transition from 'Easy Mode' to Complex Engine Management and that involved finding buttons for all sorts of new things, which just took time for me until I could remember where it all was. I just stuck with it and now I'm like that annoying kid at school that they can't get rid of.
No145_Bunny Posted May 3, 2020 Author Posted May 3, 2020 (edited) We are soon to leave our beautiful Spitfires in the hanger and step into the cockpits of our A8's to defend the Westwall. Want to join us ? Click the link..... Our Squadron re-creates historic missions each Sunday night at 9pm UK time. A flavour of what is to come, below:- S! Bunster JG26 Defending the Westwall Kameraden. Welcome to the ranks of Jagdgeschwader 26 (JG 26) Schlageter. As you know the Fighter wing takes its name of the German hero Albert Leo Schlageter, a World War I veteran and Freikorps member arrested and executed by the French for sabotage in 1923. To defend the West Wall of Germany you will need to fight like heroes to stay alive.Meet the Leaders You are indeed lucky to be among very experienced flyers and outstanding marksmen. The Geschwaderkommodore is none other than Josef "Pips" Priller ". He will expect you to follow his example and attack with cunning a resolve he has displayed. In 1943 , VIII Bomber Command sent a number of B-17 bombers in an attack on Luftwaffe airfields at Woensdrecht, Gilze-Rijen and Souburg. The attack force was escorted by ten squadrons of Spitfires during the approach and two groups of Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighters over the target areas, and two further groups of P-47s during the return. Priller led his Stabsschwarm and 8. Staffel in this engagement. Avoiding combat with the 56th Fighter Group, he lead his flight in a frontal attack on the B-17 bombers which resulted in the destruction of two B-17s from the 305th Bombardment Group. Recently On 6 June 1944 (D-Day), Priller, accompanied by his wingman made a single strafing pass attack on Sword Beach in their Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-8s.You are assigned to II. Gruppe of JG 26 commanded by Emil Lang. He was first posted to a fighter wing on the Eastern Front, Lang claimed his first aerial victories in March 1943. He was credited with 72 victories in a three-week period, among them an unsurpassed total of 18 on 3 November 1943. He received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on 22 November 1943 for his 119 victories to that time. By March 1944, his claims totaled 144, for which he received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves on 11 April 1944. Transferred to the Western Front, he claimed his 150th victim during the Normandy Invasion on 14 June 1944. He recently claimed three Spitfires in two missions for victories not total 173 as of 26 August. Between 24 May and 28 August 1944, Lang has claimed 29 aerial victories on the Western Front, including nine P-51 Mustangs. On 6 June 1944, his group was the first to reach 100 aerial victories over Normandy, earning him and his group a second reference in the Wehrmachtbericht on 30 August. Do you believe you are worthy of flying in this unit. Very well, time will tell. You are now assigned to the 5th Staffel operating from Melsbroek located North East of Brussels. Your aircraft will be in the FW190-A8 in the main roles of Air defence and Jabojagd. Report to the airfield commander for appraisal of the Tactical situation. Be careful, the Allies have swarms of aircraft constantly covering their advancing troops and armoured spearheads.Ground situation The Allied forces have finally broken out of the Normandy area and on August 17th the Americans on the Loire had taken Orléans. The clandestine French Resistance in Paris rose against our forces on August 19 and a few days later French division under General Jacques Leclerc, received the surrender of the German forces there and liberated the city on August 25. Meanwhile Montgomery’s 2nd Army began its advance on August 29, aiming for Brussels and Antwerp, with its docks vital for the Allied forces.Air situation The air forces of the allies are everywhere and in huge numbers constantly harassing our ground forces and attacking anything seen in the open. Mustangs, Spitfires, P-47s, P-38's all combining to give complete air superiority. We are fighting hard in 1944 we have in II Gruppe scored 200 victories although we lost 100 of our own. Some realities of the current situation;1. The allies have a favorite trick to catch us at our weakest time of at take off or landing where they pounce at high speed and make easy pickings of our aircraft wallowing at slow speed. Over the coming weeks keep your head on a swivel and cover your Komrades. 2. Our valiant Flak troops are becoming trigger happy and shoot first and ask questions later. We have lost several good pilots to friendly Flak fire. Be careful and ready to take evasive maneuvers when flying over any "friendly" Flak units. 3. Fuel, is getting desperately low the shortages are impacting on our ability to continually mount effective operations. 4. To protect or aircraft on ground we place our dispersal points in the woods surrounding the airfield 5. We are based very close to the front line that is moving at a raprid rate daily. Monty's 32nd and 5th Brigades of the Guards Armored Division in a race for Brussels. we will have to evacuate to our next base in Germany on the other side of the West Wall and continue our fight from German soil for the foreseeable futureThe Westwall "Siegfried Line" It stretches more than 630 km (390 mi); from Kleve on the border with the Netherlands, along the western border of the old German Empire, to the town of Weil am Rhein on the border to Switzerland – and features more than 18,000 bunkers, tunnels and tank traps. On 24 August 1944, Hitler gave a directive for renewed construction on the Siegfried Line. We can expect to be called upon to defend the wall particularly where construction and reinforcement is going on. Good luck Gentlemen, You have some magnificent fighting machines at your disposal. Learn how to squeeze every last drop of power, shoot straight and try to survive. Edited May 3, 2020 by No145_Bunny

JonnyTenebrous Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 (edited) Hi Tangmere recruiters. I'm writing to say hi and pre-register my interest in potentially joining your squadron in the near future. I'm American but live in the UK. I've been casually into flight sims for 30 years, with periods of greater "seriousness" over the years, including one lengthy tour with a Falcon 4 BMS virtual squadron. Weekly Sunday 9pm club meets sounds very do-able, and I'd probably be able to catch some of the mid-week meets if they're after ~6:30pm UK time (after work, essentially). I've got a Hotas/Rudders/Headtracking setup (my computer is not quite up to snuff for Il-2 in VR). The only reason I'm not fully registering right now is that I'm pretty new to IL-2BoX - I only just picked it up (and all current flight expansions) in a sale last week and I haven't flown Il-2 (specifically) since.... the original in 2002! I'm on furlough through May, however, so I've flown many hours in the last week and watched just as many WWII flight/combat training videos on Youtube (Requiem's channel, etc) - so I feel like I'm in a unique position to drill rapidly until I'm called back to the office. I can taxi, take off, and land with relatively decent consistency (I'm still getting used to a 3-point touchdown with taildraggers without any bouncing). Basic piloting skills and concepts are pretty much fine, if a bit rusty. My ground strafing and dogfighting "skills" need a lot of development, however, and that's where my practice is focused at the moment. I have zero skills in bombing at the moment. I would quite enjoy spending ample time in a virtual squadron "flight school" learning the proper way to do things in a WWII setting, but if you're looking for recruits who are already at a more advanced level (especially in gunnery) then perhaps it's best if I wait to join you until I've trained on my own for awhile longer. Either way, I hope to maybe join up in due course! Regards, Jonny Edited May 16, 2020 by JonnyTenebrous
von_Tom Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 13 hours ago, JonnyTenebrous said: Hi Tangmere recruiters.... Hi Jonny "Greater seriousness"? Oh dear you might not fit in! Mind you, if you can take off and land with decent consistency you'll be better than some of the shower we have who have been practising for the last 15 years. My opinion - get your application in then join OTU and us on a Tuesday or Friday after around 20:30BST. If it works then great. If you need a bit more time, also great. A basic level of competence is needed i.e. the ability to take off, land and stay in a formation even if loosely. There is no problem with people joining in until they are ready, but ops on a Sunday are only for those who get past OTU. Truly though, OTU isn't (or shouldn't be) a stressful thing. Our OTU is most often more about the "fit" than the ability anyway. That means having fun. http://www.tangmerepilots.co.uk/training.htm Cheers Tom
JonnyTenebrous Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 Thanks for your reply, von_Tom. I just installed another SSD dedicated to housing my flight sims today (they're all enormous!), and I need to order a microphone that attaches to my headphones for comms, so I'll sort that out this weekend and then apply to join OTU. Since it sounds like you're cool with me just going straight in for OTU and seeing how it all pans out, I guess there's no need for further delay. Looking forward to it! Cheers Jonny
von_Tom Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 Great. When you apply I'll send you a standard kind of email and then we go from there. von Tom
von_Tom Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 @ Uncle Thanks for the application but the welcome email bounces with your email address not found. von Tom
