No145_Bunny Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 (edited) The Tangmere Pilots have been in existence for 20 years and we still have some of the original founding members with us. We fly multi-player coops on our own hosted servers and our official Ops night is each Sunday night at 9pm UK time. It is mandatory (real life issues accepted) to fly on a Sunday night. We also fly on a Tuesday and a Friday night at the same time, this is for general fun and japes and not official Ops. TP fly a different a/c in each campaign, these campaigns can last from 8 weeks to 16 weeks or more, each Ops mission is lovingly created by our team of dedicated mission builders. A new unique mission EACH Sunday. We fly RAF, LW, VVS, USAAF and intend to fly for every country that will be catered for by the simulator in the future. New recruits will be expected to fly a series of 4 OTU flights to see if you fit in and more importantly to see if we fit into your expectations. Pass OTU and you will join one of our Squadrons and be on the Ops roster. Tangmere is NOT about how good you are in battle OR how many kills you can get, the Tangmere experience is ALL about being a member of the squadron and helping to achieve a common goal. You will make friends for life, have the most fun you can have with your clothes on, learn a lot and most importantly, become a part of an amazing community of like-minded people from every corner of the world. You will get the most out of your time with us by adhering to a well worn if slightly amended phrase - "its not what Tangmere Pilots can do for you, it's what you can do for Tangmere Pilots". Don't miss the party, we have free beer and pork scratching's ? Click and send your recruitment form in. http://www.tangmerepilots.co.uk/NewForum/ Edited February 12 by No145_Bunny
No145_Bunny Posted April 13, 2018 Author Posted April 13, 2018 (edited) All, below is a sample mission briefing from a recent mission that the our Squadron flew. Each of our missions are lovingly created EACH WEEK and are unique by our team of mission designers. Join us, pass the OTU (4 training flights) and you could be taking part in these exciting missions each Sunday. In this mission we spilt into a group of JU88's and a group of 109's. Come and see what we are all about ! http://www.tangmerepilots.co.uk/ S! Bunster 05.20 - 22 Apr 1943 3./KG51 Bagerovo airfield 5./JG52 Anapa airfield.BRIEFING:- KG51:Today's will be a strike against the airfields at and bridging units around the towns of Krimskaya (1121-7) and Kyivskoe-1 (0920-1). [Kyivskoe-2 is believed to be closed at the present time]. Our aim is to destroy as much at each airport as possible and to crater the runways. Unfortunately there is quite a lot of high cloud, so we will have to attack from under the cloud base, at around 2200m. This will leave us considerably more exposed to flak than we’d like. Therefore we should aim to make one pass and one pass only at the target. Timing is also crucial. We’ll aim to strike at first light, which means 06:00. We’ll take off at 05:20, and head off for Krasnaya Strela (0715-2/3), climbing to 2200m as we do so. We will form up en route. At Krasnaya Strela, we’ll loiter and wait for our escort. ). The flight to Krimskaya is about 62 km, and assuming a speed of 320 kmh, this will take us about 11 and 2/3 minutes. Therefore the first group should head out at 05:48. Kyivskoe-1 is about 49 and a half km, and – again assuming a speed of 320 kmh – will take around 9 minutes. Therefore the second group should head out at 05:51. Any damaged aircraft may divert to Gostagaevskaya (1016-7) or in extreme circumstances to Anapa (1115-3). JG52:Gentlemen, for this mission we will escort the Ju-88s on a mission to bomb the airfields at Krimskaya (1121-7) and Kyivskoe (0920-1). They will be forming up off the coast here at Krasnaya Strela (0715-2/3) and we should rendezvous with them there at about 05:45. Be careful at take-off, we are expecting a flight of Ju52 supply aircraft to arrive at around 05:30. The safety of the bombers is our primary concern. Recon Map:- INTELLIGENCE:- The crack AAA unit from our last sortie should be assumed to in the vicinity of the targets, so exercise caution at lower altitudes.METEOROLOGICAL REPORT:- Heavy cloud at 2500m. TP_Sparky Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 I'm flying the four training flights so I'm not in Tangmere Pilots yet but since Easter was a non-official operation I participated. What a hoot! It was A-20's escorted by P-39's over the mountains, up the coast and up the river valley in an attack reminiscent of the original Star Wars where Luke made the trench attack on the Death Star. Here we flew up a winding canyon to hit factories and mine entrances. Me-110's jumped us en route and flak hit us hard over the target. Much fun was had by all as we nursed the damaged birds to the alternate airfield. There's great satisfaction in seeing aircraft after aircraft limp in, land and taxi clear. Couldn't be a better bunch of fellows.
TP_Silk Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 Campaign update. The current 'Defend the Goth's Head Line' campaign (LW) will end in early June. The following campaign will be flown as VVS and will included units from 219 BAD, 4VA flying A-20s and P-39s. Anyone interested should apply on the forums as in Bunny's first post on this thread.
No145_Bunny Posted April 25, 2018 Author Posted April 25, 2018 Our latest recruit, Sparky, has just passed his 4 week OTU (Operational Training Unit) flights and joins our Fighter Squadron as Black 2. TP_Silk Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 It has been confirmed that the next campaign phase will commence on Sunday 10 June and will involve flying P39s and A20s of 298 IAP and 244 BAP respectively, both of 219 BAD, 4VA, VVS
TP_Sparky Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 I flew military and the Tangmere Pilots would fit right in. Tonight the holiday weekend kept some busy with relatives so we all flew Me-110's, divided into three flights to protect specific forward airfields on a moonless midnight. Everything was fun. The nighttime takeoff, patrolling, engaging the Russian bombers, landing at a very short alternate airfield because our own field was rendered unusable by a bombing attack whilst we were flying our mission. The alternate field was very short but these guys not only made it in, they landed on-speed right at the threshold and taxied off the runway after using perhaps 20% of its length. I was impressed. The best part of Tangmere Pilots is the pleasure of their company. Great fun.
TP_Sparky Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 (edited) Today we flew a mission where the fighters split into two groups, one of jabo's carrying bombs to hit an airfield while the other flight provided top cover. The fighter strike was to distract Soviet attention from the Ju-88 attack on a high-value target. The fighter top cover did distract, running into a buzz saw of P-39's and Yak-7's. When the jabos swarmed up some La-5FN's joined the furball but we kept them so busy that no Ju-88 was lost or seriously damaged by enemy fighters (or flak, for once). My sole contribution was scoring some hits on the wing and fuselage of a P-39 and forcing him to break off an attack on a buddy but I didn't leave him trailing smoke. A bit later I was hit in the cooling system and tried to nurse my Bf-109G4 home. After crossing friendly lines and over some particularly rough, forested mountains the DB sound system mounted forward of the firewall became very quiet so I glided down as low as I dared and bailed. I write all this to show the varied, exciting, unpredictable fun missions we fly. On our next campaign we fly P-39 and A-20 a/c from two intersecting runways at the same airport. First, that eliminates the present wait for the bombers to arrive from their base in the present campaign. Second, it can make for some interesting takeoff if fighters and bombers take off to the east where the runways meet! Maybe take the bombers off first as they have more gas and then scramble the fighters. It'll be fun. The best part of Tangmere Pilots is the guys. Edited May 21, 2018 by TP_Sparky

No145_Bunny Posted June 18, 2018 Author Posted June 18, 2018 Our Spasibo Amerika campaign is now into its 2nd mission, flying the P39 and A20 on the Kuban map. Our last mission was flown in Sunday night, here is the Operational Briefing:- 07.45 - 09 August 1943 219 BAD Krasnodar-1 airfield. BRIEFING 244 BAP: Comrades! Recent intelligence indicates that the enemy is using two small industrial areas on the banks of Lake Vityazevskiy as rear staging areas for tanks, vehicles and storage. We need to destroy these resources. There are 2 primary targets ( 1 at Vityazevskaya - 1015-5 and 1 at Blagoveshenskaya - 0914-5) Both are primary targets and both should be destroyed. Buildings and enemy vehicles are priority. There is a single critical road running between the 2 industrial areas. Any vehicles or convoys on the road should also be considered. You will be escorted by the P39's of 298 IAP all the way to the target area and all the way back to home base. We suggest keeping to a height of less than 500m where possible. We are aware that the LW have stepped up their CAP in the area. You should also note that the enemy have recently increased the flak concentration around the airfield of Anapa and Novorossyisk. We have tried to plan your route to avoid as much of this as possible. Once your targets have been destroyed, head to home base and land. TARGET 1 TARGET 2 298 IAP: Our mission for today is to protect the Bostons of 244 BAP as they attack the industrial areas at Vityazevskaya - 1015-5 and Blagoveshenskaya - 0914-5. You are on the limit of your fuel capabilities this far into enemy lines. Fuel will be your main worry in this mission. This being the case you will be permitted to land at Gelendzhik -2 and refuel and continue your escort duties. PLEASE NOTE that "refuel" means that you can re-spawn at Gelendzhik ONLY if you successfully land intact and safely. No point in refuelling an a/c if its damaged its propeller on landing. You may engage any enemy vehicles or convoys seen on the main road between the 2 target areas. Priority, however, will be enemy fighters. Escort the bombers to home base and then land. INTELLIGENCE:- Increased flak and enemy CAP in the area will mean that the enemies defence capabilities will be strengthened. METEOROLOGICAL REPORT:- Heavy cloud at 700m. Winds 4-7m/s and gusty SIGNALS:- 244 BAP – Chajka (Seagull) 298 IAP - Baklan (Gannet) Ground control Krasnodar-1 – Akatsia (Acacia) AIRCRAFT:- A-20 Skin: TP Personal 244 BAP campaign skin. Gamington Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 I put an app in even if I dont make the cut I wanna say you have an amazing website. I was very impressed with it.
TP_Sparky Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 We've had several new fellows apply. They had lots of flight sim experience (I had none, just RL flying) and seem to breeze through the four OTU flights. My favorite thing about Tangmere Pilots is the people but second is the wealth of experience and willingness to teach. The teamwork developed between these guys over the years is fun to behold. There's a fighter squadron and a bomber squadron (OK, technically Soviet 'regiments' in this campaign). You can switch between the two at certain designated intervals but I stay with fighters. That said, mission designers occasionally put us all in Me-110s or each regiment all in P-39s with a single A-20 to photo recon a couple airfields or a special summer break STOL A-20B mission to a super-short bomb-damaged airfield. On practice nights we often fly our campaign a/c for a while then jump into anything from Ratas to 190s to 110s to Spits for dogfights or old missions or go onto Wings of Liberty or Finnish Air War or Total Air War. Now might be a good time to apply as we are on summer holiday. If the OTU instructors are available you might be mission ready by the time we resume normal operations. We have four more P-39/A-20 missions and then (if we follow precedent) we will fly Axis aircraft for the next campaign. The last three campaigns involved the Battle of Kuban using Spitfire V and IL2 1943 and then 109s and 88s before our present P-39s and A-20s. Before those were campaigns based on Battles of Moscow and Stalingrad and many, many before that in the era before IL2 Battle of Stalingrad.

TP_Sparky Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 (edited) SLAG asked [in another thread] “…(H)ow sim squadrons operate. … does your squadron concentrate on 1-2 planes, or … fly everything and anything….? [How was] the squadron … originally conceived?" Tangmere Pilots operate in the spirit of The Few who flew from Tangmere in the Battle of Britain. The online squadron’s advanced through IL2, IL21946, and Cliffs of Dover, to the new IL2 series. Our present campaign has a few more weeks flying P-39s and A-20s in the Kuban. Our last campaign was Bf109G and Ju-88s in Kuban for 16 weeks defending the Goth’s Head Line. Next we’ll go back in time to Moscow and 109E’s and 110s and perhaps Ju-88s. We alternate sides on each campaign. After the IL2 Western Front campaign is released we’ll go there for a while. We divide naturally into dashing, heroic fighter types and intelligent, reasonable bomber pilots, about a dozen each and we’re gaining members. You select your type at campaign start. It’s been said there’s opportunity to change at mid-campaign but I’ve not seen it. We learn our specific aircraft thoroughly and practice up on training nights before beginning new campaigns. Sunday night at eight o’clock p.m. is mission brief and then we fly our (amazing) missions. Sunday attendance is mandatory. I never cease to wonder at the mission designer’s creativity. I’m continually surprised by the cool wrinkles and hair-raising surprises. Squadron members are a delight to fly with. Their teamwork’s developed over the years and they never hesitate to help a new guy. On Sundays we try for radio discipline. Tuesday and Friday night “training” often starts with mission-related flying like taking 109E models into a public server to practice for the next campaign but after a while we might fly on a public server in Spits or 190s or 110s or dogfight each other in our practice server over Kuban. On training nights we might get a wild hair and fly I-16’s or whatever but it’s just for fun and if someone doesn’t own an aircraft they substitute. The flying is fun but the rich, generous, funny personalities are even more appealing. These guys evoke the camaraderie of The Few who lounged around Tangmere in August and September, 1940 waiting for a scramble. I served as an infantry officer and as a military pilot and these guys would have fit right into my squadron. If this sounds appealing, check out our website. We’re nearing the end of our summer break which allowed some new pilots to get through their training flights quickly. Contact us and join us in the sky. TP_Silk Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Unfortunately mate even our midweek fun flights and re-flies of missions tend to be at around the same time GMT. We have a number of members who reside in British time +1 and +2 that mean that we would find it very difficult to accommodate both ends of the scale. We often fly on a training server starting at around 8pm UK time and then move across to one of the public servers or our own Ops server come around 9pm. It is a real shame but we have found historically that only those who have the luxury of time to join midweek tend to stay. Others start with the best intentions but then life gets in the way especially when it is lunch time or afternoon and being out in the sun is more fun than being a virtual pilot. TP_Sparky Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 (edited) Tangmere Pilots stand down for a couple months every summer for holiday and family fun. Thanks to Merlin and Silk’s overtime efforts in training and mission hosting/design the OTU (Operational Training Flights) proceeded with several new pilots completing their qualification and joining the ready roster for resumption of regular operations this Sunday, September 9th. Over the summer break many of us flew on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays and it was fun to try unique missions. Bunny designed another Vicious Carrot adventure where everyone (fighter jocks and bomber boys) took A-20s and flew cargo into a crater-shortened (very short!) runway to supply the troops, then turned about and made an opposite direction takeoff. Then we flew to bomb German destroyers, danced around the flak, and flew out across a beautiful, lake-strewn afternoon landscape with anxious eyes on our fuel guages. Some reached the refueling airfield on fumes whilst others found the smoothest looking scrub for an off-field landing when fuel ran out. Those who’d lost their A-20 spawned La-5FNs at the refueling field and flew cover for the bombers trip home. The Bf-109’s we fought in the deepening twilight were darned difficult to see against the dark landscape below. As we fenced in the murk, the bombers touched down safe at home and we soon followed them in. Another great Vicious Carrot Production, Bunny! On Tuesday we jumped into the Knights of the Air public server, attacking the Soviet fleet with FW-190A5 Jabos and tangling with the Spitfires protecting the fleet. Great fun and kudos to the Spit pilots. That’s my favorite flying, air combat with squadron buddies coordinating defense and attacks with radio calls, “Sparky, break!” or “You’re tail’s clear. Take him.” Or, “Turn right and pull that 109 in front of me.” Last Sunday, Andy gave us his first mission design, a non-combat combination navigation exercise, puzzle solving game, and air race. In Me-110s pilots and observer/navigators flew to a series of waypoints identified by clues (some simple, some less-so) and photograph them from close range. Timed from engine start to engine shutdown, faster completion of the course added points to your score so we didn’t waste lots of time circling to see if another object fit the clue better. Take the picture and run. It was great fun. Good show, Andy. We’ll probably do a similar mission at Christmas or some other weekend when we don’t have an official mission. To ready for squadron regular operations resuming Sunday, September 9th we flew P-39s on our own server this week. Our P-39/A-20 campaign has four more weeks and the 39 has interesting handling qualities. After four weeks everyone will be in Bf-109Es for the 1941 drive on Moscow. I can’t wait to see more than two dozen fighters in formation! Sparky F/Sgt, Press Officer Tangmere Pilots Tangmere Pilots Website Edited September 5, 2018 by TP_Sparky

TP_Silk Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 Announcing our next campaign - Unternehmen Taifun Unternehmen Taifun - Operation Typhoon - was the German plan to push East through the Soviet Union and capture Moscow in the Autumn of 1941. This campaign will mainly follow the exploits of II.Schalchtgruppe/Lehrgeschwader 2 flying in Bf 109 E-7s as they moved back and forth across the battle space but will also take in some action with II./ZG26 in their Bf-110 E-2s. The campaign will be flown over the same period in 2018 as it took place in 1941 and I hope to provide a sample action from each week wherever possible for our Sunday Ops schedule. Further details are available on the Tangmere Pilots website in the Operations Room for members and recruits.
TP_Sparky Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Two full squadrons, twenty four or so fighters in formation will be impressive.
TP_Silk Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Spasibo Amerika campaign has now ended and Unternehmen Taifun campaign is about to commence this Sunday 7th October.
TP_Sparky Posted October 8, 2018 Posted October 8, 2018 We began our new campaign, switching sides and flying Bf-109E7 Jabos in proper squadron livery in autumn 1941's Operation Typhoon. We'll also fly Bf-110's at some point. Eighteen 109s flew out, patrolled for trains and ships, bombed and shot them up, engaged Soviet IL2s and fighters and returned home with three KIA. I learned the new explosion effect is spectacular when you destroy a fuel tanker railroad car but the vertical fireball also took out my 109. One of our pilots took seriously Air-Vice Marshall J.E. "Johnnie" Johnson, RAF's dictum to "Use speed. Get close. Get closer and make every bullet count."
No145_Bunny Posted October 21, 2018 Author Posted October 21, 2018 (edited) Just some of the things our recent new pilots have said about us :- "I got free beer" "the best sex I have ever had" "I learned how to start my engine in just a few short weeks" "best to avoid Hatter" "who knew you could do that in an A20 !" Tangmere Pilots. Never taking ourselves too seriously, unless we have an aircraft in our sights.... Sometimes it's even an enemy aircraft..... Don't miss out.... Join the coolest outfit in the virtual world. It's the most fun you can have for free..... Bunster Edited October 23, 2018 by No145_Bunny

I have to ask as I can certainly remember the former but can't quite place the latter.....
No145_Bunny Posted November 5, 2018 Author Posted November 5, 2018 We still have space for new and experienced pilots. Come and see what we are about. We are currently flying 109E7s in a jabo campaign. Bunster
TP_Fritz Posted November 7, 2018 Posted November 7, 2018 One thing I can say is that, as long as scheduling permits your participation, where you live is largely not an issue - as my above posts suggest I'm U.S., but being able to make the Tuesday flights and the Sunday campaign flights allowed me to get into TP... and it's been great. Awesome bunch of fellows, and combined with a lot of real talent in the mission design department it makes for some interesting and fun flying. Our last Operation Typhoon mission had us flying 110's deep into enemy territory to attack two bridges and a Russian airfield. Our initial strike nearly destroyed everything in just a couple minutes, after which we were jumped by incoming I16s which developed into a furball low over the airfield. The action was furious enough that 2 of us collided attacking an enemy plane. Some of us scattered as a result of the combat... half heading east to land at a German field near Kalinin, one ditching in enemy territory, one landing at a German field out of gas (me - my engines sputtered and stopped pretty much just as I came to rest at the edge of the runway), and two others chased by MiGs which they managed to evade, landing safely soon after. Great fun - if this interests you, then by all means check us out!
No145_Bunny Posted November 20, 2018 Author Posted November 20, 2018 We are soon to embark on a new campaign (after Christmas) flying Migs and I16 for the VVS. You have a chance to start the OTU (Operation Training Unit) assessment flights (4 of them) now and be ready to fly on Ops for when the new campaign starts !! Join us now !! Did I mention the free sex and beer ? You know it makes sense....... Bunster
TP_Sparky Posted November 23, 2018 Posted November 23, 2018 (edited) Join now, get through OTU training flights and this next campaign (Operation Typhoon, 1941, flying Soviet fighters, perhaps beginning with the Soviet counter-attack) and you'll be old hands by the time our Bodenplatte Campaign begins. Our mission designers have researched this all this year awaiting release of the Bodenplatte aircraft and map. I'm not sure if we'll shift between Axis and Allied or switch German aircraft to simulate individual raids but I know from hints dropped along the way that there are very special ideas being considered. The timing means I go online around 2pm Central time US to putz around the sky with some of the guys until the required 3pm brief for Sunday operations and the same for the non-required Tuesday and Friday practice flying. It's a bit like being in a 1940 British fighter squadron with the banter and the flying without the wet wool and 20mm cannon shells putting off your weekend plans.
