Hi

I'm just curious to know why we haven't got any female pilots it the game, since there were a large amount of female pilots during the patriotic war?

I heard it's because females hate flight sims so it's been difficult to find models and voice actresses.

I can just imagine the potential models asking why nude pictures are needed for a model in a pilot uniform.

I`ve been trying to find the number of Russian female combat pilots in WW2. Haven`t found it, maybe someone here knows.

However, it`s clear that the number was tiny compared to males and often they become over-represented in their skills and abilities compared to men, due of their small number. Let`s not also forget that the number of actual female WW2 flight simmers will be extremely small (there`s only ONE female I directly know of, Le Bill fish, I recall), so the call for female pilots is small.

In the real thing, you`d be lucky to ever come across a female fighter pilot and there`s a danger there`d be over-represented in the sim. But whatever, I`m pretty sure someone will be offended by my comments now.

Historically speaking I only know the Night Witches with the sewing machines (Po2), the "Rose" (or Tulip) of Stalingrad and the Pilot who tried to save Hitler in the last-ditch attempt.

I`m pretty sure there was a yak female fighter pilot, but don`t quote me on it.

586th (Yaks) 587th (Later 125th Guards, Su-2s, Pe-2s) and 588th (Po-2s) were the Soviet flying women regiments, though the first two eventually ended up commanded by men due to the deaths of their leaders. To my knowledge, all three were present for the Stalingrad counter-offensive, and later at Kursk. The 587th/125th in particular were apparently quite successful, so I have read

The German aviatrix Hanna Reitsch not only landed on the street in front of the Führerbunker in April 1945 with the Russians only yards away, made her delivery, and flew the last plane out of Belin, she also was a test pilot flying everything from an early helicopter to Me-163 rocket interceptors.  Without regard for the cause she was supporting, I think that she was one of the most admirable personalities of the war.

Jason has said that he wants a female pilot model - when/how to devote the time to this given other priorities is likely the hold-up.

I'm not expecting to see her any time soon, but who knows. Po-2 is coming after all.

Loyalty and courage are characteristics of an admirable personality.  I expressly did not include the cause she was supporting in my assessment.  Unless you are not a native English speaker, that should be clear.

Small percentage of women in air combat overall but of great historical importance..pilots, mechanics, gunners etc

Very interesting reading, highly recommend...available on amazon kindle:

If the 16 Macchi 202s serving on the eastern front were considered to have made such a worthwhile contribution that they deserved to be represented in the game; then surely the thousands of women who served at the front deserve to be represented also.

This, after I twice said that my assessment did not include her politics.  I was simply impressed by what she was able to do, swimming upstream all the way against the rule that this was not women's work.  Skill.  Grit.  Determination.  Guts.  Exuberance.  But you just want to talk about politics.  When did they say we could start talking about politics on these forums?

Bah, another forum antisocial goes on the "ignore" list.

SJW intruder alert! :hunter:

In my honest opinion, the potential time spent on developing a female pilot that you meet in 1 out of 20 missions in career mode could be spent much better into cockpit mods like Erla Haube, Panzerglass refraction, additional mirrors for Bf-110s, Stukas, Sturmbock variants for FW 190 A, etc.

Also, flying in MP with radio voices and half of them being female would kill immersion. That's just not how it was. Especially for the Germans.

And it reminds me of the SJW culture of "the current year" in North America, annoying the heck out of me and breaking immersion even harder. :negative:

I don't think it should be a priority for the devs, but if they ever wanted to make a scripted campaign about the Night Witches or something to that effect, the model should be made.

Even a simple retexture of the existing model would probably be enough, though I am really unsure if you'd ever be able to tell the difference in the sim. I can almost never make out another pilot while flying, just the plane.

You`re going to upset some people. But I agree with you.

What will likely happen will be the kind of Call of Duty nonsense, because "Some women fought in the war!"

Chances are it will happen as with everything that just has to be inclusive because it`s 2016, 2018 or whatever. History doesn`t change because of the damn year! Truth is, I appreciate every person`s contribution to the war, Black men, Indians and women, etc, but I want to fly a REALISTIC SIM, not a sim that over-represents every colour of the rainbow to be `inclusive`; it will destroy the historical reality and representation of the sim as with many historical things that are being re- written by certain parties today.

Amen!

It’s not an all-important addition, but it will provide both flavor and important representation to the sim.

Who said woman pilot would be in every plane including german one? Simple, only po2, in carieer only night witches unit and in multi whoever wants it. C'mon... multi is just random madness anyway. You can fly with 1944 usa skin in moscow... how is that any different than woman in po2? Multi has nothing to do with history anyway, random mission with same amount of targets for everyone and people dropping bombs from he111, on 2m alt with 10s delay just to have super aim and score most points...

Good question! Cause, at least the famous "Notschnyje Wedmy"  (Night Witches) would surely have deserved to be in the sim.
But then there may be too few female players who'd like to fly in such units - and as a man, you wouldn't be allowed in! ;)

Here are some great colorised pics of them:

I'm all for female soviet pilots but when you consider that Soviet women made up only approximately 3% of total military personnel, you would not expect wall to wall female pilots. The "revisionists" I'm sure will have very different  viewpoint.

Speaking of women, It would be nice to hear some female Luftwaffe air controllers over the radio.

While I personally would like to see this included, I can't see the Devs making it a priority.  Don't think they can just add a different voice set to a squadron in the career (to keep it accurate), not to mention to actual recording of the voices.

Although the idea of a "Night Witch" add-on is very intriguing.  Static/Historic campaign with fully female-voiced missions?  Hell yeah!  My wife might even wanna try it.

Maybe 1C could partner with a Museum (like they've done in the past) and promote it.  Bring some female interest into the sim.

Nappingman you are so far from reality that's not even funny. That's like trying to "bring female interest to axes". Or "fishing knives".

It just won't work. Exceptions mark the rule.

Well, here are some female pilots flying BoS. And here may even be men, who would fly with the "Night Witches",

pretending/playing they were a female pilot. It would certainly be a novum in an air combat sim. Why not?

It's a minor change. If 1C decides to do it, then who cares?
