THERION Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 Hi everyone, I read a lot about performance problems in this forum over the last weeks. And the new version 3.001 has an impact on my system too, but not as serious as for others. Now, seeing that people with beefy systems have less trouble, I rise up the question, if the minimal system requirements on the main web page are still correct for not to say misleading? These are the actual system requirements published on the main page: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Minimum system requirements OS: 64-bit Windows® 7 (SP1) / Windows® 8 / Windows® 10 CPU: Intel® Core™ i5/i7 2.8 ГГц GPU: GeForce GTX 660/Radeon HD 7770 with 2GB VRAM or better DirectX: Version 11 RAM: 4 Gb+ Sound Card: DirectX®-compatible Storage space: 10 Gb+ Internet connection: 256Kb/s for single-player campaign, 1Mb/s and faster for multi-player DirectX® compatible flight stick is recommended ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Are these minimum suggestions still appropriate? The team already knows that 2-4GB VRAM is going to cause some trouble, 4GB RAM too and to be honest those suggested GPU-models are well underpowered. Or I am wrong? Seeing that people buying this wonderful sim, but with some false hopes - based on the current min. system requirement - is not really fair. I'm not a business man, but I think these indications are really outdated. And don't blame those who are running into trouble only because they might not have read the forum posts - a new user (customer!) gets his information first on the main page / product page, it is the basic information making his decision to buy this product. I ask you: Is this new user going to be a happy customer when he's likely to run into trouble? I don't think so. And you all know that we need every single new fellow to help support our passion, our hobby - this genre is a niche product in the gaming world, so we better don't screw it up with misleading information. Wish you all the best... Cheers 1
Sunde Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 (edited) Hey Therion "Minimum" requirements are there to say - these are the minimum specs for you to be able to run the game, (at least thats how most games on steam are listed). So i do believe that these specs will run the game, it will not play optimally, but it will run. Edited April 5, 2018 by EAF_T_Sunde

I agree, but IMO it should be also stated that specs are for 1080p resolution, anything beyond (not to speak of VR) requires significantly more as a minimum hardware.
Inkophile Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 Considering the new possible horizon distance isn't obligatory I'd believe that the minimum specs haven't seen any significant hit. However the maximum specs certainly have increased.
Danziger Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 Minimum specs means also you need to run the game on minimum settings. The problem is that a lot of people are expecting minimum spec rig to run on maximum settings and then upset when it's a slideshow.
Cunctator Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 My PC is currently very close to the minimum system requirements and the sim is still fully playable with it. I5 2500K, 16 GB RAM, Radeon HD 6950 2 GB GPU, 1900x1200p resolution. I more or less use the settings suggested in the "Jason's Quick Guide to 3.001 Graphics Smoothness" thread, not minimum settings everywhere. The game still looks fantastic and I get about 20 fps on the Kuban and between 30-50 fps on all other maps during missions (in game counter). Played 40+ career missions on the Kuban map in the last few weeks and didn't experience any stutter or slowdowns. It doesn't feel like 20 fps. I am indeed very impressed by the IL2 engine's performance vs. quality, especially if compared to other sims.
Godspeed Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 GPU memory usage on 1920x1200 (1200p) ultra is around 3.5-3.9gb so system requirements are outdated.
seafireliv Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 Minimum specs are always horrible, pretty much for any game, but especially for this. Minimum specs is like saying a model T Ford is the minimum spec you need to drive anywhere!
BeastyBaiter Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 Those minimums were unrealistic during BoS early access. I had a GTX 770 and it gave lackluster performance (balanced, 1080p, 50-ish fps), one can only imagine how terrible a GTX 660 would be. My guess is that is the level required for 720p 30 fps at the lowest detail setting, which is technically playable. Alternatively, it could be viewed as the minimum requirement to start the game without receiving an error message. Both are fairly standard practice tbh, so anyone with any sense will completely ignore the minimums and look at the recommended spec as the true minimum spec for a reasonable experience.
TWC_Ace Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 (edited) Performance problems here arent specifically hardware related. And ppl with very strong bulids had also some problems regarding stutters etc. Anyway I find recommending requirements funny because we all are running different resolutions on our monitors, some ppl are using VRs etc etc. Up to 1080/1200p BOx will run great on mid range gaming rig (assuming one is using some "conventional" head tracking device). sniperton Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 Agreed, it would be better to advertise the recommended system specs, not just the bare minimum to run the game. I mean, recommended for FHD / QHD / 4K / VR at High settings @60 FPS. Then anyone could make an educated guess what to expect.
