New campaign is great but AI really ruins it.

AI crashes on take off.(specially russian)

So I am selecting air starts now.

 

A big immersion killer. even in difficult settings I am getting 6 or 7 kills mission after mission (Trust me I am not that good) new guns feel more powerful , both german and soviet, makes a lot easier to break wings off planes.(I dont know if it is more realistic or not but contributes with the amount of kills , since not much ammo is needed to bring down a plane).

Yeah it looks a bit buggy, hopefully this will get fixed. I noticed half of my squad (flying IL-2s in Kuban) crash on landing, or better said, while taxiing - into aircraft shelters. It looks like they want to park their aircraft there, but ignore the shelters around the parking lots and crash into them.

Just after I posted this flew a mission, Kuban map patrolling the area near my base, flew for 20 minutes then a Henschel 129 formation came low from the north, initially I was like wow they are flying real low over the mountains and are hard to get them, then one after the other all of them crashed into the mountains :(

No use in raising it because some [edited] will rush in and say "This has been reported to devs multiple times" or "how many threads do we need for the same topic".

I had a sortie on stalingrad campaign in 109 where during the dogfight with i16s the squad leader just flew off north, while everyone else fought. After we finished off the i16s the AI then chased the leader flying around 100km north, where we spotted him at high altitude heading towards us. After some circle flying we reformed and flew together to the next waypoint where the AI proceeded to circle down to the ground, completely ignoring the pe2s and migs that came in to bomb the target near that city. When I landed the AI was still circling at tree top level near that city....

 

Also I believe AI is modelled not to be able to see you on their 6, but that leads to weird oscillations where AI spotting you chooses a move that would make you "invisible" to it, at which point it chooses a different move and sees you again, oscillating between the two. Makes for easy kills but breaks immersion.

I'm on the Moscow campaign and takeoffs seem to be working alright there.  I deleted my Kuban ones however due to the problems mentioned.  I'll try them again later.

The AI unfortunately produces way to many losses per sortie. It is common that I lose 60-100% of my squadron every flight. And the replacements seem to be newbies mostly so the slaughter continues. Its an immersion killer cause I don't even bother memorizing the names of my team, let alone being eager of defending them because they will die the next sortie anyway.

 

It seems to differ however, in the Fw190 I had almost 100% losses every sortie, now in the HS129 it's a bit better (mostly due to aircover which in a FW190 campaign you never get). And flying in formation doesn't work either.

 

I hope the AI gets a update for the next patch. The campaign itself is awesome.

Agreed, but the [edited] who are extremely annoying and end up pushing people away from the community  are not the moderators, so the more feedback we give about this problem , the better.

I have been pretty fortunate so far flying my Spit Kuban Career, the AI planes crashing into each other on the runway has been a fairly seldom thing for me. Mainly seems to happen when there are more than 4 in the flight taking off.

I saw a lot of 109G2 crashes during low altitude maneuvering at Stalingrad : not only in career but also in Juri's Pitomnik missions

Yeah I noticed a G2 executing an unforced grounder last night in some low hills.

Hopefully terrain avoidance gets more attention soon.

Since the update to 3.001 I sometimes see whole flights crashing into the ground when the AI tries to attack enemy aircraft at much lower altitude. Obviously the AI doesn't know when to pull up from a dive.

Interesting, I noticed this before 3.001 regularely, but with the new patch it got much better. Now I rarely see it happen.

Yes, I've seen this too in the past, but not for whole flights, only for single aircraft.

I even took it for rescue, when six Yaks were chasing me, I dived down to the ground, and looked back to view them all lawndarting into the ground.

In my Moscow campaign things are pretty ok also, just I saw twice in a row a plane crash into another one (didn't see it happen, but 1 was falling down and the other 1 was gonna landing) immediately after the air mission started above our airbase.

 

Seems Kuban map related campaigns are more problematic. Glad I started mine at Moscow. ^^

Ok,

 

I know some of you are new around here, others are not but will say it once again.

 

You cant call any members here any derogatory name, dont care if you like allied or axis planes or whatever. Dont do it.

 

This has been indeed reported so one more offtopic or any back and forth and I will perma lock this topic.

I only fly 110 so far and it's quite ok, still some game breaking bugs like your team is way faster than you and never waits for you. When you get lost there is no way to talk in radio and ask them where they are. Would be nice to get some info like 5km from gumrak, 2000m alt. So you would at least know where to look for them (some mission take place in bad weather so it's easy to lost them, especially when they are way faster). 

 

Dying teammates is also a problem, their bad skills, you get 5-6 kills and they all combined 1. And bf110 fight bombers so it should be even easier for them to destroy them, they seem to waste all ammo by full auto and not hitting anything.

 

Or they fly away and follow enemy fighters deep into russia. 

 

These are 3 problems I find most annoying. But fortunately never seen AI crush on take off or something.

I've had multiple flights go awry when lead and 2 have a collision forming up after take-off. It's a bit disconcerting to become flight lead a minute into the flight.

 

Also, I would love to get my hands on whoever vectored my three-ship flight into an intercept mission against maybe 9 Bf.109s and 4 Ju.87s.

Not seeing the take off crashing, landing crashing or lawn darting behaviour on either of my 2 Kuban careers or my Moscow career.  The fighter flight lead tearing off in the distance is a bit annoying but if you anticipate that, you can manage to stay with them.

 

Stick with your flight where possible when engaging bandits and help them out helps reduce the squad attrition.  My Il2 Moscow campaign, I try to use the squad as AA bait whilst I go in and try to clean the AA up.  It helps all of us.  The fighter escort does a good job keeping enemy fighters off our backs.  I do mainly air starts on this career though as Moscow early career has the squad about 140km or so from front lines and it is a bit tedious to fly.  Some fighter squads are a little closer but I see how it pans with progression.

 

Find the 109's struggle fighting Yaks in Kuban, the AI Yak pilots will UFO all around us some with black smoke pouring out of their engines from battle damage.  I try vertical maneuvers which gets them in front of me but then they turn evade and one has to drop flaps to 40% to pull lead on them for a shoot down.  Funny cause if I fly a Yak and a single round pierces my wing, it is like a handful to keep the thing airborne yet alone fight.  I try to boot scoot back to base when that happens.

 

My Il2 squad over Moscow does a decent job hitting ground targets.

 

Still, maybe people need to post the career mission they are flying when AI goes stupid, along with settings of the career and flight settings.  I fly on Medium Density and Medium Difficulty with all my careers and Full Real.

 

btw, I appreciate the devs giving the AI blind spots, it was nice top sneak up on a Yak in my G2 from his low six and I just opened up on him with the 20mm.  His peeling off into a spin and falling down to earth with black smoke bellowing after him was nice to see.:ph34r:

I fly either moderate or easy difficulty (still learning the game...), but I start on runway with high density battlefields (I mean, if you've got an amped up computer, you might as well put it through its paces, yeah?).

After 60hrs in campaign i have enough. The AI is so bad, that i startet to fly my missions alone or with one wingman only. I made it a minigame to help the AI to survive and the more AIs you have, the more difficult it is. I wanted to see if i can level them up but had no luck so far.

 

AI have severe problems keeping formation, they cant fly german fighters, they lawndart when attacking low flying planes and sometimes also without any reason and so on. I gonna make a break and wait till a patch fixes these AI related problems. 

 

All in all the career is great and im thankful for it, its just the AI who makes it worse but that was also the main problem with the old campaing system. The good thing is, that the new campaing seems to make the AI problems more obvious and people talk about it more. Lets hope the devs will find the time a way to fix the problems or maybe some modders can do something about it i dont know.

You should try a Stuka campaign over Stalingrad....my whole flight crash into each other if we get close to the target erea. I try it multiple times with the same result = 80% of my squadron is dead or PoW.  After some tests with the Bf109 & He 111 campaigns, it´s another one for the trash bin thanks to the bad programmed AI.

 

The Dev. did a good job with the career system, but the AI ruins it completely every time. It´s close to unplayable for me. I put this Sim aside and will wait for futher AI improvements.

....aaand another try. can´t let my hands from this Sim. ^^ Bf-110 career now...2nd mission,ferry cover. After endless circles over the Ponton brige,my flight rejons for the way back to base. Guess what? right...all 3 Bf110´s crash midair in front of me without reason,out of the blue. "Instant deleting this career as well"  Folks,this is so laughable....
