IonicRipper Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 (edited) It seems the new Saitek X55 is available for pre-order. What are your thoughts on this new stick? http://store.madcatz.com/brands/saitek/Saitek-Pro-Flight-X-55-Rhino-H-O-T-A-S-System-for-PC.html EDIT: Just noticed there already was a thread about the X55... Sorry about that. Edited January 7, 2014 by IonicRipper
CreepiJim Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I won't pre-order a joystick which predecessor had to be modded to meet the expectations. I will wait for unbiased community reviews AND disassemblies before I even consider looking at buying a new Saitek.
Grifter Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Looks fairly promising for the price, but the collar and ring setup for the spring area looks plastic, not metal. I think I would wait on this one as Blechbohrer said.
Emgy Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 The replaceable springs does directly address the spring tension complaints on the X52 regular&pro. Nice that they are responding to the community on that. (I actually like the soft spring, though.) But I agree with Blechborer and it will be interesting to see screens/vids using joytester2 to test deadzones and the diamond nonlinearity.
FuriousMeow Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) Pre-ordered. I didn't mind the two mods to the X-52 Pro I had made to get it to function better. Hopefully with knowledge of the deadzone issues and the magnet mod, this stick won't have it - but if it does I'll have no problem modding it. Has way more buttons and switches than the X52Pro, and dual throttle. I'm also interested in seeing if I can mod another stick's FFB into it, but won't know that until I receive the stick. Although it is a little annoying that I signed up for the pre-order announcement back when it was first announced that pre-orders would be available and unsurprisingly I never recieved the notification. Madcatz support is pretty crappy, took them three weeks to respond to an inquiry with my pedals to which they said I would have to RMA but they would not provide a replacement and the RMA would take up to a month. Turns out a powered USB hub was what I needed, the motherboard USB ports didn't provide quite enough consistent juice for the pedals and the stick where the pedals would cause a short and all devices would reset/disconnect/reconnect when rapidly moving the pedals.
