TP_Silk Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 The objects are available in the mission builder as a 'funicular' and are intended (I think) to make something like a ski lift in the mountains. Not sure what inventive mission builder has placed them in the sea.
Cunctator Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 The Germans did build a cableway over the strait in 1943 to help supply the bridgehead. 1

EAF19_Marsh Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 Yes, it is historically accurate and there on the map. Nice touch.
-SF-Disarray Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 The whole reason for the battle at Kuban was the Germans were trying to build a bridge to invade southern Russia. Turns out bridges are really good at getting bombed though, so it didn't work out.

No need for mission builder, it is on the map, you can find it in QMB. It goes from Opashnaya in 0610 2 to the promontory, that ends at Il'yich. 1
Chief_Mouser Posted April 3, 2018 Posted April 3, 2018 The Russians are finally completing the project as we speak, although not quite in the same place, to consolidate their hold on the Crimea. Due to open in 2019. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerch_Strait_Bridge 1

Anyway, very informative didn`t know about the uncompleted bridge. Edited April 3, 2018 by seafireliv

Seems like you'd need some impressive air cover to prevent someone from blasting a hole in your expensive and likely hard to repair bridge.
-SF-Disarray Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 If I recall my history correctly, it was a kind of desperation strategy on the German's part that they took up after they got bogged down in the north; the hope was to circumvent the defenses the Soviets had managed to put in place in the face of their main advance. The ground work for the bridge was already in place as well. The Soviets wanted to connect Crimea to the the Kuban area for various reasons military and economic. 2
