I was wondering if he was related to Anastase Mikoyan, but I was thinking it must be a coincidence, so I haven't checked... and I was wrong...

 

And I didn't know that Artem Mikoyan was the brother of Anastase Mikoyan! What a family !

 

Was he one of the two Anastase Mikoyan's sons who were sent to GULAG by Stalin?

Mikoyan had - I think - four sons and a couple of adaopted children too.  He was the great survivor.  The only old Bolshevik not associated with Stalin's cavalry army of the civil war to survive the purges, " Ot Ilyicha do Ilyicha bez infarkta i paralicha".  

 

Not sure what happened to the other sons but I wonder if this one flew MiGs against the Americans in Korea?

Fully agree, we should have definitely Stepan's Yak-1 !
