AndyJWest Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 (edited) Happened Saturday. Collided with a cherry picker after landing. Pilot unhurt apparently, but the Yak isn't going to fly again any time soon. . See here for details: https://www.odt.co.nz/regions/wanaka/plane-crashes-warbirds-opening Probably best not to speculate as to cause, beyond noting that the Yak 3 suffers from the same poor forward visibility on the ground that most WW2 fighters have. It was originally built as a Yak 11, but 'converted' to a Yak 3. http://www.pioneeraero.co.nz/project/yakovlev-yak-3/ The same aircraft was once hit by a stray hunter's bullet, while in a hanger. https://www.odt.co.nz/regions/queenstown-lakes/hunters-stray-bullet-hits-rare-plane 1

HBPencil Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 In case you haven't already seen it, there's also another thread going:
AndyJWest Posted April 2, 2018 Author Posted April 2, 2018 No, I'd not seen that. Probably because of the uninformative title.
Stlg13/Sgt_Schultz Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 This one has been listed on here for ages now https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/aircraft/aircraft/auction-910473391.htm he must be kicking himself.
BornToBattle Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 Regardless, I wouldn’t have the balls to even climb out of the thing after that massive oversight.
