Hey everyone, I have a bit of a technical question for you all.

I've had trouble for a while getting IL-2 1946 to work on my Windows 10 PC. It used to run fine on older versions of Windows (7 in particular, but I believe I was able to get it to work in 8.1 as well), but it seems that I cannot get it to load in Windows 10 at all. I have the GoG version and installed it outside of Program Files (86x), but that seems to have done nothing. Turning on compatibility mode also did very little.

I have no indication by the computer that the game is trying to run other than GoG will show the "play" button as being grayed out for a second before returning to normal, meaning that the game is either failing to start or is closing seconds into the start-up routine. I never get a black screen, or white screen, or anything else - I'm just left at my desktop the entire time.

Any advice would be appreciated...

GoG 1946 certainly works on Windows 10, so don't give up. However, I've also seen it fail to start on several installations. Sadly, I was never able to figure out exactly what went wrong.

Have you looked for a solution at SAS? They're very experienced. Nevertheless, I can think of several things to try

  • Change conf.ini render settings
  • Run as administrator
  • Reinstall the game (especially if you've upgraded your OS)

Not sure what's going on here. Are you launching it from a GoG client? Perhaps try launching it by il2fb.exe from the main directory.

I haven't tried at SAS, not sure what subforum to even look at.

I've played with the config and with running as administrator, and I can't begin to puzzle out what the problem is...

Thanks for the heads-up! I’ll try to hash it out with you guys tomorrow.

Usually it is the resolution settings in the conf.ini file that is the biggest problem.

Make sure the conf.ini file matches your native desktop resolution!

In the main game folder:  {X: Program Files}\Il-2 1946\conf.ini
