Ships seems to have a speed limit despite you can put any value in Mission Editor...

What is the max speed for each type of ship ?

Does someone know, i can't find any information about that

Thanks,

If you extract .gtp data, you can see in luascripts\worldobjects\ships folder .txt files for each ship caracteristics, and you have this data for max speed inside:

1124 - PrioritySpeed=11.5 // максимальная скорость (top speed)
1124bm13 - PrioritySpeed=11.5
destroyertype7 - PrioritySpeed=20.0
landboat - PrioritySpeed=5.5
largecargoshiptype1 - PrioritySpeed=5.5
largetankershiptype1 - PrioritySpeed=5.0
largetankershiptype1ger - PrioritySpeed=5.0
rivergunshipa - PrioritySpeed=5.4
rivershipgeorgia - PrioritySpeed=3.8
rivershipgeorgiaaaa - PrioritySpeed=3.7
subtype2b - PrioritySpeed=7.0
subtypesh10 - PrioritySpeed=7.5
torpboatg5s11b - PrioritySpeed=28.0
torpboatg5s11b213 - PrioritySpeed=28.0
torpboats38 - PrioritySpeed=25.7

now where is that New Guinea campaign, i didnt get P-40 so it sits in hangar, its ment to hunt Japan C202 or La5s :)

Does Priority speed = Top speed ?

I guess it is km/h but this is strange because i can make a destroyer go much faster than 20 km/h

Cargo max speed is around 15 km/h, not 5

I belive thats in knots, and this was only refrences to ships max speds i was able to see, as i was also trying to fuiguer out how to know what they can do just from ME

In russian they say priority parametar is top speed, all explanations for parametars are in russian so i posted also that russian text next to parametar in abow post

You can test if thouse speeds are real numbers in ME just plan ship to go strait line, for example that destroyer for 37km should travel 1h if his max is 20knots ( i was checking colums speed for seow campaigns like that, should work same here, to know if speed in txt file is corect)

What a mess if speed is in km/h in ME but in knots in this txt.file

20 knots / 37 km/h is a bit slow for a destroyer whatever...

Yes all speds even if they are in knots look slower then real ones, but i dont have Kuban so i cant run test to see how fast they realy go, mayabe you can check if that destroyer realy can go only 37km/h if you give him 50kmh as speed for example.

I don't know off the top of my head what vessels are featured in the game as I have yet to play around with all the new Kuban goodies... But a max of 35 knots (+/- a few) should be a fitting speed for a WW2 era destroyer.

I found out that even if i dont have Kuban i can make mission for it and play it in MP, so i made test mission to see if thouse numbers are kmh, knots or something els, to see what are their max speeds.

As in SP i can speed up time and in MP i cant, i made test on 6min insted 60min, so if destroyer ship max speed is suposed to be 37km/h (if PrioritySpeed=20 means knots) i made him go in strait line for 6min and placed two static ships 3,7km from his starting point, and set waypoint speed to 100km/h (so if 37kmh is not his max he can go abow it).

And i noticed that he traveled in 6min mutch more then 3,7km, so i run second test and placed objects every 1km on sea after that 3,7 mark, and i see that he stops after 6 min at around 6,5km mark.

Then i run more tests with other ships and it seams all were stoping after 6 min at max speed at around areas where distances they traveled  show 3.33xPrioritySpeed is their real max speed in kmh for each ship in game.

So in case of for example torpboats38 in 6min he travels around 8560m so 25,7x3,33 = 85,58kmh and thats his max speed, and it matches in what i see he travels in 6min if waypoint had 100kmh set as speed.

here is test MP DF mission if you wont to see and test it your self:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/q8ut88g4kisld4j/shipspeed.zip

im using in it:
1124
largetankershiptype1
torpboatg5s11b
torpboats38
destroyertype7

i placed static ships exactly at places where they should be after 6 min if their max speeds are 3.33xtheir PrioritySpeed number in km/h. And you will see that after 6 min they are exactly there ( +- their speed up time from standing still at mission start )(i put timer that shows mesage on screan whe 6min pass from mission start).

Then from test the max speeds of ships in game are around this values :

1124 - 38kmh
1124bm13 - 38kmh
destroyertype7 - 66kmh
landboat - 18kmh
largecargoshiptype1 - 18kmh
largetankershiptype1 - 16,5kmh
largetankershiptype1ger - 16,5kmh
rivergunshipa - 18kmh
rivershipgeorgia - 12,5kmh
rivershipgeorgiaaaa - 12kmh
subtype2b - 23kmh
subtypesh10 - 25kmh
torpboatg5s11b - 93kmh
torpboatg5s11b213 - 93kmh
torpboats38 - 85,5kmh

In 1942 German destroyers could speed at 36 to 37 knots about 67 km/hr. They had 6 diesels driving three shafts, or two geared shaft turbines.

In 1942 Russian destroyers were much faster. The Tashkent class destroyer built from 1937 to 1941 had 2 shaft geared turbines and could do 43.5 knots or over 80 km/hr.

The Leningrad class built from 1932 to 1940 could to 40 knots or 74 km/hr. Other classes went from 37 to 40 knots.

In average speed was in favor of the Soviet destroyers.

The German torpedo speedboats or Schnellboote S-100 were capable of 43.8 knots or over 81 km/hr.

The Russian torpedo speedboats G-5 class were just flying on calm sea with speeds over 56knots or nearly  105km/hr for the G5 series 11 built in 1941.

Again speed is in favor of Russian torpedo speedboats.

PrioritySpeed might be a default cruise speed. An airstart airplane is not at max speed, but at cruise speed and engine settings. Realistically a ship will not go max speed except for short periods in combat. Most map builders aren't going to know average ship cruise speeds just like they won't know average plane cruise speeds to set for airstarts, so the developers set it for us. They just chose to call it PrioritySpeed,  not cruise speed.
