I dont know, and I really can be wrong in this, but is it really noticeable is it historically correct way, how the damage happends? I think the graphics are just an illustrations now. If you hit in the tip of the wing it might show somewhere else when you look the wing? How you notice that it is the historical damage what you are experiensing. Theres not many ways a plane can damage in game.

We aren't focusing on what type of damage is shown in the damage model but merely on the most basic result (i.e. wing shot off). Next up is a comparison between targets and ammunition. Finally you can compare it to the historical data of the ammunition and therefor estimate if things make sense. You will never ever get a accurate damage model simply because it is way too complex. If you have ever read a report on ammunition tests against aircrafts you know how complex these things are. However you can see that it is strange that ammunition with a lot more destructive power is under performing against contemporary types.

Yes thanks Operation_Ivy. I  meant that is it possible to notice if you have been hit with a hispano or a minenround in-game? Assuming the minenround is modeled and would be as powerfull as the hispano about. It would be wing off or some other Basic results. Can you tell the difference from inside your plane been hit, or from the shooting plane looking at the damage that what ammo it was. And they could illustrate the proper looking damage for minenrounds. Just a thought.

The visual damage on your plane is always the same no matter with what type of ammunition you got hit with. The visual damage only shows how much damage you took. When you are experienced you can sometimes tell what hit you simply by the effect of the damage. 20mm Shvak AP rounds for example are very prone to pilot kill you while the Hispano is very good at delivering a lot of damage with very few hits.
