I'm enjoying a campaign with 6 GIAP, flying the Yak-1b and 7b out of Gelendzhik-1. 18 missions and 43 victories so far. Would recommend this career, it's been flawless and there's loads of action.

When finishing a mission, I noticed that the debrief screen, underneath the green "secondary objectives complete" line, shows my name, a small picture of a landed plane, and either "Successful landing"  or "Forced Landing".

"Forced Landing" appears at least half the time, even when I have smoothly landed an undamaged plane in the centre of the runway, taxied to one side, and switched off the engine. It seems that the difference between a successful landing and a forced landing is actually the wind direction!

The AI correctly takes off and lands into the wind, which varies from day to day. If we land to the south west, towards the sea, it's a successful landing. If we land towards the mountains, to the north-east, it's always a forced landing. The plane remains in service.

I imagine this is purely cosmetic, and does not affect career progress, but it seems worth reporting as a minor bug.

Is anyone seeing the same phenomenon at other airfields?

forced landing happend allways when u land anywhere but not on your base airfield where u started.

yes is just cosmetic, for career only counts what u hit or damaged and if u get back in one piece or dead or in prison, you can end your mission right away after leaving frontline over your owned territory without harm your career

No that is not it.  I always return to my start airfield and very often one of my flight is already landing when I get back and I land on the same runway from the same direction. The rest of the flight land after me the in same direction as I did.   As I am not breaking anything on landing then I can only see a few possibilities A) It does not like it that I have got some minor bullet holes in my tail B) It is upset that I ignored the tower and landed after being told the runway was too busy C)  It does not like me taxiing to the bunkers before switching off (I always get 'landed' message while still on the runway)

Just experienced this. It was in a Quick Mission, flying a F4 against a LaGG. After managed destroying it, I landed in "Shkolniy" airbase (the mission spawn point where the circle with 3 red planes and 3 blue planes in the map, winter Stalingrad, over Stalingrad), without damaging the plane, all to see It was a "forced landing". Actually it doesnt bother me the fact that it was forced, but the fact that maybe Im damaging the plane in the landing (109's are difficult to land, from what I read), and then maybe its my fault. But since I think I did a pretty gopd landing, I guess this is a bug, or idk, I would really like to know what IL2 logic and code takes in account to consider a landing was forced.

While I'm building a campaign for BoS, I just experienced this problem. So I searched the forum for a solution and came across this topic.
Now I expose my experience.
Labeling an airport as a Home Base is not enough to make the landing at that airport determine a Successful Landing message, but it only happens that once the mission is loaded the map is centered on the Home Base.
From the tests I carried out it was found that only if the airport where you land is equipped (during the construction phase of the mission) with a "fakefield" linked entity of the same nationality as the player, the final message of Successful Landing is activated.
And this regardless of the direction in which you land and the presence or absence of the Land command.
I have also noticed that, in the presence of two airports, both with "fakefield", giving the flight wingmen the order to land, they go to the nearest one, regardless of whether it is labeled as a Home Base or not.

Probably also if the mission includes an entire flight plan, including Waypoints and Land Command, if the player follows it, he eventually gets the message of Successful Landing.
This, at least, is what I have been able to experience, however without having devoted much time to investigate this problem.

So probably we should enter the Mission Editor and understand how the mission was built, but I realize that this is outside the interest of those who are flying the mission.

Try Insuring the airfield in question is a linked entity and has its' taxi routes designated under 'Airfield Properties'.
