As a newbie I have the feeling that having the possibility to display angle of attack and Gs on the HUD would help me learn the flying basics, am I right?

Actually, a very sensible request.

The option to have labels pop-up over gauges that showed the `manifold pressure`, `fuel` and the like would be more helpful, especially for realism pilots training.

Most gauges have strong similarities in appearance from one aircraft to another (LW, VVS or LL dependent) and that's a good deal of work for not a lot of benefit other than the first  1 or 2 minutes of a first flight. No violently disagreeing just saying that most pilots committing to realism will be of a learning mindset and a little pre study.

Not a problem. It was just a thought as I was flying in career and trying to remember all my I16 gauges again before my engine blew. I`ll just dig up one of my printed manuals I have somewhere.

Incidetally, there are instructions on how to lead aircraft which is a whole lot easier than remembering all the Russian gauges.

There are gauges in the I16?  :-)

Its a lot of work but you could once make an overlay for Playclaw that you could activate when you are in glance at dashboard or a snapview preset. I tried it many moons ago - not sure if playclaw still works however- mind you - by the time you'd done that be VERY familiar with the position of everything anyhows!!

There are so many things to learn that I have engine management full auto for now, so no gauge reading problems yet :) Just trying to explore the flying envelope and have clean landings, but I found that I have difficult times understanding what is really going on, where am I exactly, with only some visual and sound clues... real pilot at least have body sensation for Gs, and may be motion sensation for AOA (?) to help them I guess

Not really. You don't feel motion, but acceleration (i.e Gs) and tilt (combined with motion). They don't usually make sense so pilots tend to ignore their stomachs and focus on their instruments instead. I suggest flying a russian plane at first, since they have all the instruments you need, i.e. Artificial Horizon with nice "digital" indicator for pitch and a good vertical speed indicator. German planes like the 109 lack both so they can be confusing to land.

So I've heard. Apparently they were flown exclusively by midget contortionists.

I actually really like that request. It would also be tremendously useful when testing turn performance and maneuverability of the individual aircraft.

Good idea :good:

I kind of lean the other way, If the planes of the era didn't have it, then I don't want it.

I tend to fly with techno chat, hints, and hud instruments off. I think VR helps a lot here though, because you really do feel like you are sat in this fully functional cockpit, that tells you everything you need to know.

I 16 is a beauty in VR, You just have to duck down a little to see your instruments.

I wish server side options could include control over the technochat and hud instrument facilities. I say this because some planes the gyro compass locks up. Spitfire for certain, not sure about others making it possible for you to become disorientated, until you go straight and level for a while and once again you can check your heading. Also having to check your engine settings and temperatures means that momentarily your head is in the cockpit, and not looking out for enemy contacts.

That could easily be restricted to SP no? I suppose you can't put on aiming help on MP, still as a real beginner I really appreciate to have it on to practice... so everybody is happy new comers and aces. I must say I had no idea how steep the learning curve is, so having some tool to help is really welcome, helps more people to discover a fascinating world...
