Well done on the Career mode, devs... Well done.

THIS was why I originally bought IL2.

Love the newspaper clippings from real life stuff both on the German and Russian side.

Love the real photos.

Love the personalised Career details that mention you by name. Maybe one day we can put our face in too?

Love that I can start a Career from the back, and work my way up the ranks.

Love that you have an immersive reporting system and show us the pilots who fly with us.

Love the choices of airfield\scenarios to start with.

Love that sometimes there are missions where you don`t even join, you just wait until the next one.

Love the reward\medal system (you even get paid cash as Russians).

Etc, etc, etc...

I was even able to confgure my joystick and especially my qyadrant controller without a crash. Sim plays beautifully although i`ve only flown 3 missions so far. Aircraft feels better on the ground and in the air. It seems easier to spot targets in full real mode. Love the I16, but love the Spitfire even more (however, i`ll have to wait a whole to fly that...)

My flight lead on one mission was firing flares. Was he signalling to bombers we were assigned to escourt?

I was beginning to doubt whether you guys would really do the Career; I`m glad my money was not paid in vain. :)

Great stuff, looking to find out what else you`ve done. Will certainly get other aircraft such as the LA5fn.

Well done.

I think I`ve used the word `love` for the rest of my life now, so I`ll just use-

`I really like...`

That you get reinforced with new aircraft.

That you get reinforced with new crew.

That your name shows up in flight so you know you are talking or being commanded.

There are two flights a day sometimes and you`re wondering how well the other flight has done after they return.

There are more aircraft in the air.

I agree with you. I also love/like the career. And I absolutely adore what they've done to the Stalingrad map. Great map now!!

Yeah me too, going to have to start another career there soon, spending all my time in Kuban currently.

The whole flare thing from the flight lead and Tower when about to take off is interesting. It`s probably not very realistic, but it does give the impression they`re communicating on the take off time, giving the Player Pilot time to prepare. Considering that I16s didn`t have many working radios at the start of the war it could`ve been a thing. Maybe.

Or maybe it`s a bomber escourt thing...

Yes I was thinking the same thing about the flares. Radios were rare in the early days. I started out as junior lieutenant in Moscow and when I opened the menu for communications I could only give hand signals.

This is one of the greatest things the game has seen. It's like half the value of the game for me. The great graphics and physics are one half and this magnificent career mode is the other half of a whole great experience.

What official color code for flares?

I've seen AI launch flares after we take off from the runway. My assumption is that it is to signal to the bombers to get up there so we can escort them.

He does as well on the ground as you wait to take off. I just had it just now as we started on an intercept mission. Although this time he didn`t fire 5-6 flares, it was  one flare from the Tower and flight lead and then we were off!

Well if you guys like it! I should buy BoM as well and run it through from start to finish

I should also say well done to many of the pilots here... The ordinary guys who I am aware helped give the Devs so much information for the Career. Well done tou you guys as well.

Ok this one was funny...

Chose a new Career at Moscow after dying at the hands of a 109. Picked a different Squad  with a Mig 3 or I16 choice. Picked I16. Found myself flying with an I16 among a bunch of MIg3s!

Next mission they gave me the Mig 3 and someone else the I16!

Went on an escort mission and got into a sortie with 109s again... Trackir went insane because the sun shone through the window. By the time I got that sorted a 109 peppered my wing and I was losing fuel. Hit me again and I lost control at about 100 feet from the ground.

Bailed at about 40 feet! I didn`t even see my parachute open.

On the mission briefing... WOUNDED! :o:

lol. I survived!!

I also think the Career is very very well done.

However, at the beginning I tried to remember my wingmen, thought of them as my "friends" and wanted them to perform well.

After a few missions though it became obvious that the AI was not able to support the otherwise great career system.

I have completely new crew like every third sortie due to stupid and unnecessary losses (every other flight like 2 of my men die just of piloting mistakes alone). I don't bother remembering their name anymore which is a shame and reduces immersion a lot.

Also what the career needs is an option to ADD waypoints in order to make more sophisticated flightplans and avoid for example enemy AA etc.

But 3.001 was a huge step in the right direction!

So pretty realistic. More than once I've been sent on suicide 3 against 12 missions and none of us made it. I managed to dive and run back to base once but still lost the rest of the flight.

If 3 against 12 yes, I don't bother about that. Actually I like everything that IS realistc, even though "unfair", if it was like that.

But when you have 4 Fw190 vs 3 Yak B and two times (There was a mission with exactly the same number of planes at the exact same spot) and all the Yaks and all the Fockes die (three of the planes fighting heavily wounded/smoking and two/one crashes into a hill without urge) then it's not pretty realistic imho.

Just came back from a ground attack mission with my 110 in Stalingrad and yet again the whole flight died. The career generates just waaay too big losses for it to be called realistic.

Wait a minute where are you seeing your name during radio transmissions? I get nothing at all.

What difficulty settings are you using?

regardless yes I agree, career has been lovely!

To the bottom left where  Callsigns pop up just look at the tiny writing above it and the pilot who`s talking`s name will show up, including yours if it`s you. Unless you turned the Hud off?

Moderate career, dense ground and Realistic mode (no icons, real engine management, etc), but my map is accessible with my aircraft icon on it.

Just discovered today that,  as squadron commander,  you can change the route waypoints,  altitude etc.!

This new campaign mode also surprised me. Its the best thing on the BoK release version.

I read somewhere that by changing the waypoints you can force the sim into starting you closer to the objective so every mission doesn’t have to be an hour plus in length.  Have you noticed this at all?

Nope. Though I only use ground starts, so I wouldnt know!  I imagine it makes sense though, since the airstart begins in the last waypoint before mission objective.

Awesome, looks like I’ll be trying out a career as a squadron leader

I haven`t tried Squadron Commander since I like to start as a Rookie and work up, but that`s real nice to know, especially since as a rookie all I can do is hand gestures! Another thing to like about the Career!
