Hot dog thank you Jason!

It would be nice to see some more of ICDPs work in there as "official". his 190A5, 111-H16 and Spitfire templates already exist. But I'm sure that conversation has been had.

Nice... thanks Jason.

Would it be possible to get the .dds files for the official skins? AFAIK we can't extract them from the game files.

There is now a mix of 2K and 4K skins - in a few versions both are available (like the F2 that by BHH).  Again ICDP has produced many of the aircraft in 4K templates to the highest standards - I can also think of A-E Hartmans P40,  Stukas JU87 and 52,  Panzarbar's 110s the the other 109s by BHH and Boomerang that are also of in that "expert" category (forgive me if ive missed anyone).

I  realise its fine for me to keep chipping in and expecting Jason to do all the work but if the 2K and 4K were split into separate categories and all the artist who have worked so hard on their respective (and proven) templates were represented I think I would improve the resource further. Even if this wasn't done , having those other templates in front of people would give users a one stop shop of templates.

Again something that probably already being done either by Jason or the artists themselves so forgive my second guessing.

In ICDPs vacation absence I'd be happy to package his templates, alphas and Bumps into zips if it helps Jason.

50 yrs experience of dealing with human beings has taught me that I'm justified in doing so. :) I'm sure you got it all in hand.

Maybe it's the mix of all the different characters here that makes a good team - like in "Band of Brothers"? :salute:

I have prepared a Template for the Bf-109 G6 Model. What I have to do to get it publish with your agreements?
The Template is a mixture of your list published ones for the other Bf-109 models with addition to suit it to the Bf-109 G6.

It will have an own Normal Map and would be updated by myself with proper additions to make it as smooth and good as possible. There is a graphical glitch due to mapping of 3D model which I have posted under Technical Issues and Bug Reports.

Actually, with AnKor's updated/revised unGTP tool, you can now extract the .dds files for the official skins - that's how we created the Historically Correct Official Skins and the Winter Defaults replacement mod packages referenced in the 2 threads below:

PS - I don't know why the Forum software elects to display an un-spoilered image above - all I did was paste in a copy of the link to the thread (in which that image does not appear in un-spoilered fashion), and I don't know how to make it behave differently.

Hallo...

Where do I have to install / copy the template?

Posted (edited)

Thanks Panthercules.

Where can I find the updated extractor? I can only find this:

http://www.kegetys.fi/gtp-extractor-for-rise-of-flight/

Which is unGTP10.

Also, which file are .dds files located? Per the unGTP instructions:

"To use, run the unGTP.exe with two parameters, first the
path to the GTP file and a wanted output directory."

Ankor posted his updated tool on page 2 of this thread (for some reason the posts do not seem to be numbered on my screen, but it's well down on page 2):

The syntax and process for running the tool is pretty much like it was for the old tool - this is how I do it at any rate:

1. create a new temp folder with a short/easy name (for example, c:\gtptemp)

2. copy unGTP-IL2.exe into that temp folder

3. copy the game's .gtp file(s) you want to extract into that temp folder (for example, the skins.gtp file)

4. open a command window (run cmd from the start menu)

5. in the command window, navigate (using cd\ commands etc.) so that you are in that temp folder (probably not strictly necessary but makes the typing of the next step much simpler)

6. type the following: unGTP-IL2 <name of .gtp file you want to extract> <name of folder into which you want the extracted files to be placed>

In my example above, assuming you want to extract the skins.gtp file, you would type the following (without the quotes, of course):  "unGTP-IL2 skins.gtp skins"

and then hit enter - when you do, it will create a new folder ("skins") in your gtptemp folder and extract all the contents of skins.gtp into that new skins folder

I always just name the new folders the same as the name of the .gtp file I'm extracting - easier to keep things straight that way.  And by navigating into the gtptemp folder first in the command window, I save the trouble of having to type all the pathing info for the files and folders.

[EDIT] to find the game's .gtp files, just open a Windows Explorer window and search for ".gtp" in your main game folder.

Anywhere you want, outside of the game's folder structure.  These templates are not installed to or used in the actual game - they are only for use in creating your own skins using PhotoShop, GIMP or some other appropriate image/skin creating program.  Once completed, those skin files you create by using these templates are then installed into their appropriate place in the game's folder structure.

Any chance of having a similar link for the normal maps?

There is a link to download all 4K normalmaps in the post below (click on the date/time under my name to go directly).  It doesn't need JSGME to install but it doesn't hurt.  FYI, although there are 4K Ju-88 custom skins available, I have not seen a corresponding 4K normalmap for it.

This kind of bug doesn't come from the template itself but from the way the 3D software cut and paste the templates elements on the 3D frame of the plane.

Unfortunately ICDP won't be able to correct the bug.

I think the bug should be reported to the dev team.

Bug or not, thanks MelKarth for highlighting it so clearly - it certainly will help a skinner resolve the issue with less frustration. In the absence of a fix to the grown up bit of the coding, the inclusion of that screenie in the template as the opening layer ( like we see with the disclaimers on some) would be a good next best thing.

I'm quite suprised than non of the talented 2D artists on the forums is interested in making a 4K template for the Hs 129. it's been in game for so long and we still can't get nice high res skinds for it :(

Just a little bump since I see no response or its inclusion in the template links. Pretty sure Jason's priorities list is a very long one though and can understand how the work started may have been put on the back burner.

Still....fabulous template!

I'm working on a little something here in 4k resolution. ETA around 3-4 weeks. I'm getting a -200 error when I attempt to post WIP pictures.

Just an observation not a critisism, but I have noticed that the panel lines and normal maps of these skins are not compatible with those of the default Bf-109 G skins so maybe that's the issue.
