Mastermariner Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2429024,00.asp Will this be of any use to us flight simmers? What do you think? Master
MACADEMIC Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Could imagine huge performance gains using eye tracking. The area of focus of the eyes is really very small, we perceive the world outside of this area as somewhat blurry by nature. If the simulation knew where we're looking at, it could produce high res output only in an area just a bit larger than our area of focus, in real time, while producing lower res outputs for all other areas. This would not take away from the enjoyment of the player, but enable games with much higher frame rates. MAC
Mastermariner Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 I was sort of thinking TrackIr’ish, but perhaps that’s not possible. Look down on the throttle and the screen follows your eye movement etc... Master
MACADEMIC Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Research paper on foveated rendering: http://research.microsoft.com/pubs/176610/foveated_final15.pdf Performance increases of 5-6 times achievable without perceived loss of quality.. Check out the video too, link in the paper. MAC
