Blackhawk_FR Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Hello all. Rain drops effect looks really great, although they should looks way more thin and straight while slipping on the canopy. But, there shouldn't be rain drops in a small cloud like we mainly encounter in the game. Even more on winters maps. 3
InProgress Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Would be cool to have parts of windows frozen 1 4
303_Kwiatek Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 (edited) Yep rain drops in clouds expecially in cumulus shouldnt happend. It is rather Hollywood style. Rain drops should be in rain clouds like nimbostratus, CB some case in stratus, generally only with clouds which give rain fall. Edited March 26, 2018 by 303_Kwiatek 1 1

I like it. But the raindrops itself looks like grey-white comic style. It doesen´t fit to the new effects.

Been a long while since I used to fly, but I seem to remember it was a bit like driving your car through heavy fog. the moisture would condense on the windscreen and then droplets would form and start to stream if you do not use the windscreen wipers. I don't mind if the effect is not super accurate in game, I happen to think it looks very cool, and I would miss it if it wasn't there. 6

Yep is something like heavy fog but usually not rain droplets in the clouds on windscreen. Only in clouds which give rainfall. So otherwise just hollywod effects. LuftManu Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Everything can be improved. They have done a GREAT job and for now it's the only combat sim that has raindrops.. They are great but as it was stated they can also add more effects like frozen parts on the windscreen. No need to add the "Hollywood effects" prhase. An incremental upgrade of things is the way to go, if it were for some of you guys, we would still be on the 90s with only perfect renditions of something wich is impossible as reality cannot be copied. 1
CanadaOne Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Don't care if the rain isn't perfect. It looks great! 9

Lensman Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 I love the rain and moisture effects we have now and applaud the developer. Getting what we HAVE is an amazing achievement and additional demands are greedy. 1 4
sport02 Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 too me , even if it's not historically , scientifically exact .

Voidhunger Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Rain effect is nice, now i would like to have improved oil effect someday.
ShamrockOneFive Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 It's one of my favourite new effects and it looks really convincing to me. I have high hopes that it means they can do things like a nicer oil effect and maybe some frosting and freezing in the future. All in good time!

However, I think it was removed by Team Fusion updates. Happy to be corrected.
sport02 Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 (edited) now with rain effect , of course oil must be upgrade , freezing require just a copy of Cod effect Edited March 26, 2018 by sport02
Haza Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 (edited) Gents, Before any further oil or freezing effects, I would really like to see a rainbow. However, no unicorn type rainbows though. Edited March 26, 2018 by Haza 2

TP_Silk Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 The only problem with VR implementation is that we don't seem to get rain on the goggles with the cockpit open in VR. It was also noted last night that propwash doesn't seem to have much effect on rain on the windscreen while on the ground. 1
Pict Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 The new rain effects are cool... try flying through your own cannon fire low over the water and you will get water on your screen...great job !!!
Danziger Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 I just wonder why we can't have proper lightning. And tornadoes. And earthquakes. And meteors streaking across the sky. 1
Blackhawk_FR Posted March 26, 2018 Author Posted March 26, 2018 (edited) Lol that topic is already going into a spin... The main point was not how the rain effect is (as I say, to me, it looks great, as it's the first time we have it). But where we encounter that effect. With the patch we can also have 2 clouds layers instead of one: that's fantastic. I hope our mission builders will often use it. Now, even if it's not a priority, I'm also looking foward to see: - Local rain showers under huge tower cumulus - Stratus stuck to the ground early in the morning (knowing we already have a thin mist layer modeled) - Mist with an inversion layer That will give a fu***** huge immersion. The Tornado will be in IL2 Gulf War 1 and the Lightning will be in IL2 ColdWar edition. Edited March 26, 2018 by Haza 2

I am a Snow Flake I melt under any pressure and become wet and mushy. Talking of which, snow flakes in Winter maps through clouds would be great, but you have to have all 1001 different types.

So I'm guessing you must just stay in lots watching the weather channel?
Feathered_IV Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 I wondered if it would look even better if the drops were 50% smaller.

CisTer-dB- Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 There is plenty of video on youtube on how it looks like once you fly trough clouds
Blackhawk_FR Posted March 26, 2018 Author Posted March 26, 2018 (edited) 39 minutes ago, Haza said: So I'm guessing you must just stay in lots watching the weather channel? No, just watching the weather I mostly encounter in my aircraft almost everyday. 26 minutes ago, Haza said: Wouldn't that be drizzle though and not rain? You can check by yourself on youtube while searching "flying through rain". Drops appear smaller on the canopy, even under rain showers (bigger drops than drizzle). 21 minutes ago, ATAG_dB said: There is plenty of video on youtube on how it looks like once you fly trough clouds Yes, and so you can see there are no rain/big drops of water inside Depending on the type of clouds, of course. fiddlinjim Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 I think the raindrops look just great like the DEVs made them and don't want them changed for bimbocirrius or any other clouds.
Herne Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 23 minutes ago, ATAG_dB said: There is plenty of video on youtube on how it looks like once you fly trough clouds cameras can be deceiving though, it depends of the focal length of the camera. I remember flying through some heavy cumulus, lets call it cumulus congestus as the ceiling was a little over 10k feet. I was P2 in a glider, on a cross country competition and we were using it to climb. While circling up in this cloud we passed through some heavy rain, sometimes the rain even seemed to be coming up faster than we were climbing, hail which was quickly becoming a problem on the leading edge of the wings. A simple stall was enough to free the ice, given how the wings of a glider flex. now obviously that is not typical of all clouds, but it does stand to reason that if you fly through water vapour, it is going to condense on your canopy if you are in it for long enough.
-TBC-AeroAce Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 I was watching the Australian GP over the weekend and there was in cockpit footage of F18s. One flew through a cloud and the rain effect looked very similar on the back half of the cockpit bubble but not on the front. I think it should be more streaky on the front glass.
Danziger Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 F18s fly a bit faster than 109s and Yaks though.
