falle96 Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 Sorry to make another new topic so soon after my last (What will IL-2 look like a decade from now?), but I just wanted to make a quick suggestion to the forum mods. Could there be a dedicated Career mode subforum added? AFAIK, there is none aside from the old, pre-3.001, Career Assistance subforum, and that's not really appropriate for people talking about Career mode in the released version of the game. It'd be a great place for people to put flight logs/AARs (what I'm really excited to start reading) and discuss the game-mode. Thanks! 1 1
Solmyr Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 (edited) AAR : I was thinking exactly this everytime I ended a sortie. There is sooo much room for those since we now can experience a true WWII pilot story imo. (Like when it was my only 2nd sortie and our 4 MiG-3 met a group of 3 Bf-110 on its way to intercept bombers, and that my buddies let me deal with those 3 angry guys while they were almost immadiately keeping their route. Got them 3, but thought several times that my hour had officially came. ) Edited March 26, 2018 by Solmyr

I'm a trash pilot (okay, I'm being a bit unfair, but I have barely started my IL-2 career and I have no headtracking/VR, plus a joystick from ~2006, so I'm a long way away from being a good pilot), and my knowledge of daily life on the Eastern Front is very limited, but I would love to make an AAR someday. In the meantime, reading reports from other pilots would be incredible. Have you ever been to Subsim, the submarine simulation forum? They have great AARs on there, and it's just like reading a docudrama of life aboard a U-Boat. Something like that here would be incredible.

Nah, it's not for me, the only one AAR i could make about that kind of things would be something like : "Yeah I was that U-Boot, chasing that poor lonely cargo ship without any form of weapons, yeah I was close from them, about 50m, yeah meters in marine ^^, yeah I fired all of my torpedoes, yeah Iw as so happy, bt nah, I didn't make it any damage !

Aye, I'm pretty bad at the whole torpedo thing myself. I'd like to go back to sub sims someday, but for now flight sims are my focus. Here's the Subsim (semi)official AAR thread, just to go to show what people do in it: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=151090
Sotka94 Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 (edited) Great idea, and a dedicated section for AARs or "show us your pilot/pilots" would be one I'd frequent often. Total War Center (dedicated to the Total War-series of mostly historical strategy games) had in their forums hundreds of AARs, and even reviews of AARs, creative writing groups and guides, essays on fiction writing, newsletters run by the community, etc. Most of the AARs were obviously of varying quality and most were abandoned sooner or later, but there were always a few choice jewels that were great to read. There's also a Mission Reports section on the CombatACE forums, filled mostly by only one user, 33LIMA, who writes excellent reports of his adventures in various sims. https://combatace.com/forums/forum/307-mission-reports/ And here is one example of an after-action report I found on the Rise of Flight forums: https://riseofflight.com/forum/topic/44232-spider-web-aar-mission-1/ So you'll have my support for this suggestion Edited April 4, 2018 by Habsburger "us", not "as" 1
