Is there an easy solution to making old missions & scripted campaigns work again??

I’d estimate nearly 80% of my third party missions & all but official Scripted Campaigns no longer work, so I wonder whether I should just remove them from my game folders? Some might be re-worked by their designers of course ( fingers crossed,) but who knows? I remember reading somewhere that they can be fixed but to do so each mission must be tinkered with in the Mission Builder. This would seem to be time intensive ( if I could figure out how to do so in the first place..) Has anyonediscovered any easier way. Will reloading the original download do any good? Thanks!

Thanks Luke- I did know that & should have posted there originally. I guess i thought since this was/is an update issue it might be better put where mor epeople having the same problems would see it.I rolled the dice & lost..but no big deal- its ok here.;)

Re-downloading the original files will be ineffective as they will still be incompatible with the current version. Depending on mission, some will work after being re-saved in the mission editor (remove .msnbin file, open the mission in the editor and then save), although some will be corrupted and (for instance) have very blue wash colour that makes it almost impossible to fly in. I need to take a look at some of my old files that have this happening and see if there is an easy fix by maybe adjusting the map/season/weather settings or something.

If you get the "blue wash" syndrome, it's a dead easy fix. You just have to open the mission in the ME and add some clouds!

When you open the mission, [usually] there's an open "Properties" window/dialogue thingy. Click on Atmosphere Options.

And then in the next window, choose your clouds, up at the top of the window:

Save... and... Done!

No I do remember the fix from previous install, but my problem is that only the 'official' Scripted Campaigns now work & many of the third party 'Missions" no longer work either.

I'd better fix my Ju-52 missions.

Thanks for the reminder.

That's what we're saying. Instead of (or simply while) waiting for the original authors to fix the missions and campaigns, there's an easy DIY approach. It does take  - maybe - five minutes to load up and then resave each mission, but it's very straightforward!

Mission makers should also take a look at this post by BlackSix:

A thorough rework will be necessary if you don't want bridges, tanks or factories to be destructible by a few MG rounds.

Yep like Juri said. And everyone look over the change log. New clouds, changes in AI taxi and attack logic, durability changes... list goes on. Even if you resave missions to "work" with the new game version that doesn't mean they will function properly or as intended. I've been hard at work testing and revising my 110 campaign, this took me about a week, not 5 minutes!

May I ask you to explain here about changes in the frontlines for the Axis missions as you already did this fix?

When using "Line Type - Position Type 0" for "Translator:Icon", in old missions the red and blue front line colors on the map no longer change correctly according to the player's choice of color when flying for the Axis side. This means you can have blue as friendly icon color, but your side of the front line will be shown in red on the map. Therefore in Axis missions the front lines need to be redrawn in the opposite direction of the front lines in Allied missions. This image explains how it should be done:

Untitled-1.jpg

Axis = front lines should be drawn from north to south or west to east

Allies = front lines should be drawn from south to north or east to west

I didn't mean to minimise the work involved in testing and revising missions. I'm [intermittently] hard at work testing and revising my own back-catalogue. The stuff about durability is really important, and a bit of a mountain of retesting awaits. Also, at the moment I'm stuck converting some DF missions into "Cooperative" missions. I'm missing something and it's annoying me - but that's for a different thread.

Here, I was just pointing out that it's possible to get a mission to run fairly easily, and that may be enough for the OP.

Question for the experts

1. I am flying campaign mission, when done, I am loading the  _gen.mission file into editor, and save it, as single mission.

2. When I start the game and go to my single mission folder, I don't see the mission I just saved of the _gen.mission file, however it will load into the editor proberly!

3. Any ideas how to over come this problem? I have deleted my "ctreecache" and "mtreecache"  the problem is still there!

Cheers

Rename them in the editor, the game doesn't see *.gen name.

I have done that from the beginning, I saved them as " save as " under new name, into a fresh mission folder, inside mission folder, not working!

This problem came with the 3001 patch earlier game version worked fine in this regard.

The mission I am trying to save are the once generated by the career system, could that be an issue?

I got today a generated by the career system mission to test one issue and I was able to run it in the game after some fixes in the ME

Great if these fixes could be published.

I know how to get to the Editor & how to open a mission ,but I don't know how to remove the .msnbin file you mention. I tries to re-save one of the ZG26 beta missions & came up with a mission without aircraft.clearly i did something wrong or neglected to do something right.

Hi Blitzen,

It sounds to me as though you've come up against another of the little bugs, the one about season/weather sttings messing up on conversion.. To remove the .msnbin file you need to go into windows explorer and rename or delete it. This will allow you to resave to the new version. When you open the file in the FME make sure that you take a look at the map settings (make sure that it's the correct map, GUI map and season) and make sure as well that you take a look at the meteorological settings (clouds in particular) and that there is a setting in that box and it is not blank.

Hope this helps

I'll give it a try...as i mentioned at the beginning of this thread I love the newest version of Box but I sure lost a lot in the way of scripted campaigns & third party individual missions...
