Crashing and burning plane

When a plane crashes, it explodes for two seconds you have a ball of smoke and that's it. This is not realistic. You should have a column of smoke of the burning remains at least for a few minutes.

The same goes for any targets like trucks or buildings, but i think it's optimisation, lots of smoke all over map would not work good. I am fine with small stuff but stuff like ships should burn and sink way longer, there is not much ships in game so i think it would not hurt optimisation.

It’s bonkers.  The moment when all the parts of the game are supposed to come together, and the payoff is to tightly rationed as to make it irrelevant.

Smoke columns do use a lot of resources.  Maybe it should be an option as some servers have so many crashes in one place that prolonged smoke would be a serious performance drain. Can you imagine Berloga with smoke lasting even two minutes? :-)     Other servers have the deaths more spread out but even then you could have only a couple of crashed aircraft but lots of smoking vehicles in one place as a damaged vehicle can smoke for several minutes before exploding.

A mission maker can trigger a smoke effect if a ground target is destroyed. You guys are giving me ideas!

You know if you want to achieve hero status, you could mod the career mission templates so the smokes last longer.  ;)

I posted about this months ago. You blow something up and it burns and smokes for a few seconds... then nothing. It would be nice for the smoke to last a bit longer. I don't really care if downed plane don't burn for long, but ground target smoke should last a bit longer. Good for immersion, eye candy, and as a target marker for that inevitable second pass.

I can understand the server issue on processing load. But there should be at least a parameter (like: realistic smoke & flames)  for those not on servers but playing the career and campaigns. I am sure many of us like me are willing to have a very realistic environment, and for that to invest in the most powerful hardware.

Players could see smoke rising continuously from crashed aircraft in Oleg's Il-2 series, as early as 2002.  How has this expertise fallen so far behind, that nowadays we can only manage twenty seconds before our hardware becomes compromised?

Because the graphics in the old IL2 was so much simpler and put less strain on the GPU.  I am sure if BoX used the same simplistic smoke columns as IL2-46 then the game would have no trouble leaving them there for 30 minutes but it would look awful now you are used to proper smoke.

The smoke in this sim must be absolutely jaw dropping if it can only be permitted to last twenty seconds.

Well I don't know about the rest, but me personally I do not want to necessarily fly around in circles watching the burning of a plane I just shot down and admiring the flames and smoke. I want to be moving on to my next victim.

It wouldn't be a server issue beyond tracking a point where the smoke position is and status on/off. Server doesn't need to render graphics and none of that goes over the network.

Smoke lasting for longer or not is definitely only a user side computer consideration.

I'd be in for it lasting a bit longer. There may have been limits such as X amount of target destroyed smoke per draw distance. Depending on the engine and optimizations, things like smoke can really kill frame rates. Been an issue for a long time.

This is true, when I’ve been searching for so long on a group of ground targets, blow one up then to loose track of where they went because the wrecked one blends in with the ground...

It doesn’t have to be an inferno like Stalingrad, even just a light smoke effect would be nice, to show that something was recently destroyed here
